Is AMD worth the 5X price tag for some sheet metal. I'm looking at a rocker panel and AMD list price is 299.99 while Sherman's is 41.67

10 point show car or daily beast? The cheaper metal usually has minor dimensional issues and some have marker light issues.

Yup.

AMD actually secured some of the original Chrysler dies for stamping their parts, that's why the fit is usually better. I was surprised by that, but after having a 20 minute or so discussion on the phone, with the owner, he told me that they tried to get as many as they could, and are constantly trying to acquire more.

He also said it's an expensive endeavor, so I'm sure that's reflected in the cost.

It's on a pro touring build. I want it to look good, don't mind a little massaging to make them work. If AMD is truly that good, then I'll probably go with them for any visual metal

If I am not mistaken, AMD also uses the same gauge steel that the original cars used. I'm not sure of the Chinese stuff.

I bought one of those rockers from Sherman's once. What you get is just a section that would go in the middle. The AMD rocker is the entire factory part. There is NO comparison between the two parts.
Spend the extra cash and get a real replacement part.

Ted

I courted the idea of replacement rockers when I did my build, ended up repairing the ones I had; the only rocker that looked like it would fit was the AMD unfortunately.

I used AMD rockers, along with there entire catalog for my Duster and everything fit very, very well. I've used Goodmark on earlier builds must say there is no comparison... AMD metal is better and a heavier gauge steel.

used AMD full quarters/trunk floor/drop extensions and had the deck filler also but repaired mine easier than i thought. They had a couple small blemishes that i figured was easier and quicker to fix than sending them back for new ones. But I assume it was done in shipping to my supplier or maybe even moving them around in his warehouse but i would not blame AMD for it and i had the option to send back and chose to keep and fix myself.

The fit was spot on perfect and there were no issues whatsoever in the install process and my buddy and i are not professionals at all.

check out my build thread down below for the process and how it went

I have used AMD with GREAT luck also. Their parts are definitely worth the price. Plus, I believe we sort of owe them a bit of loyalty. After all, how much decent Mopar sheet metal was there before they came on the scene?

Oh yeah it's worth it in my opinion. AMD and I became real good friends. Trunk pan was dead on, extensions too. Even came with the stiffener bracket on the underside of the extensions and proper goodies for the spare tire jack. After I get my garage inside done I'm bringing my Duster home. First I've got a job way up north first . Should have it home by fall.

Yes, it worth the extra money as their pieces fit a lot better than the others. Granted nothing fits like an OE part, but the AMD stuff is about as close as you'll ever get. Simple way to look at it...what is YOUR time worth?

exactly my thoughts

Imagine how long( took days to begin with) it would take for a couple novices to put full quarter panels on both sides a full trunk floor and drop extensions on an A-Body (with no frame connectors) car if the panels were not as close to perfect fit as possible.

And still have the trunk and doors still open and close lol

AMD makes the nicest, but just to be clear - AMD is Chinese stuff.....

I was going to say this as well.
The tooling is developed in the USA, but the parts are stamped and packaged in China, then shipped back to the USA for distribution.
That's why they can put on the box ''Made in the USA''.

well, you all convinced me haha. Hopefully there will be an AMD dealer at the nats. It is gonna be expensive to ship all the metal i need

I just wish they made a tail panel for a dart.....a 72 and up

rocker panel only????!!!!!!!!!!!.... go the cheaper route! fenders and qtrs... AMD

everyone must have missed that part..... rocker panel I wouldnt worry about the pricier....they are all talking about the fittement of body lones and bolts.... rocker shouldnt be an issue... shermans is good

For patch panels I'll use sherman or goodmark.

For entire panels or areas where there are lots of body lines, indention's, contours etc...AMD is the way to go.

I haven't bought any AMD body panes but ordered some bumpers and they look really nice. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from them. Dustin

I caught the rockers only part, and I have used the Sherman ones. They were close, if you consider the fact that the label said it was a rocker panel...and that was as close as they came to fitting too. Bought the AMD ones and they fit without having to hack them up. I agree with a patch panel, but the rockers aren't a patch, they are an important part of the car.

i used amd and cheapo before, cheapo had missing hole and a round hole where a square one needed to be.... so ive seen the bad and good no issues with the amd..
just seems like a rocker would be hard to scew up....

Just a heads up, the AMD stuff I've purchased is usually cheaper buying thru Summit Racing, rather than AMD direct.

I used a Sherman Rocker panel once. Never again. It fit terrible. It took HOURS of tweaking, cutting, and additional fabrication. I think I would have been better off starting with flat 18 gauge steel.
