soon we'll be ready to send the car to a body shop. we're restoring a 70 duster. is it ok to remove the gear box while still being ok to be towed? assuming flat bed? how about any of the other tie rods or torsion bars?

It's not going to roll if you do. The front tires will go every which way.....

We usually get a piece of thin wall pipe (3/4" dia) and drill a hole in both ends. Then you bolt the pipe to the steering arms so that you can kick one wheel (or grab it with your hands) and the other wheel will follow along. The tires will turn real easy if you over inflate, especially without the eng/trans. You have to more or less align the two front tires before you measure for the hole distance. Never tried this method on a Mopar.

What he said ^ (mguner). I would leave it on and mask it or leave the bolts loose so they can slide it out of the way if need be. The t bars can be removed and a chunk of wood can be stuffed between the control arm and bottom of frame rail ( about 1- 1.5 thick chunk). That's rednecking it though.

that's some of the things i was afraid of. i'm not up on towing, how do "they" secure the front end of the car?

You are not towing the car you are HAULING the car is that correct? Loaded onto a trailer or truck? So you only need to roll it slowly on/ off?

As above, another thing you can do is buy a cheap piece of angle iron / perforated at the hardware story, some long 3/8 bolts and washers, and bolt the angle across the steering arms on the spindles.

Either than or use two guys to "argue" with the tires on/ off the trailer

depends on what "they" have to attach to... as there's no drive train, it'll be light so it won't be a huge issue - are the bumper and brackets on there?

i just assumed it would have to be flatbed'd. the car hasn't ran since 95 and i couldn't in good conscience tell someone to tow it with the rear axle not seeing any attention since probably before i was born. bumpers are all off, it's pretty much gutted at this point

For pushing around in the shop and loading/unloading on a trailer, tying the steering arms together with a piece of pipe or angle iron will work good. But only if there's nothing in between the arms that doesn't interfere with the pipe/angle iron. The wheels will turn very easy with no engine/trans, bumper, etc.

seriously? i just want to take every precaution. can you blame me? this ain't no geo metro

I've found that when push a car with no center link, or gear box or the like, that it will track backwards much better than forwards! Not great for going on to a truck, but rolling off and pushing it around it works pretty good. It's easier to steer also, kinda like a hilo!!
