I have a car that I need to fix and I'm not sure if I'm right on the amswer... So please let me know the real poop...

I have a 1968 steering setup that uses tie rods with the smaller diameter stud. Centerlink and ball joints have that corresponding smaller hole/taper.

I "think" that 1973 and later - uses tie rods with larger diameter stud. So centerlink and ball joints have the larger corresponding hole/taper.

Am I right?

Thanks 67!
I wonder if this thing has C body tie rods as part of a suspension upgrade. The tie rods don't go into the centerlink or ball joints. These parts are all new but the studs are way bigger than the tapers.

You mean someone forced them in with say, just part of the threads? Hard to say what they might be off from LOL

The difference that you're missing... Taper studs to center link go in opposite directions. So imagine assembly line workers under the car. At one time there were sharp limbs of cotter pins ripping the workers scalps. At another time it was the zerk/grease fittings toward their scalps.

This is 72 and earlier. Notice that the studs must point so that the nuts are UP. This is because that is the way the center link is made

Here is 73 and later (large spline box). Notice that the stud nuts point DOWN
