Just finished my spring relocation and my body guy is about to start the mini tub. I've been trying to decide what tires I should get for my 68 Dart and I just can't decide.

I want the widest tire I can get/contact patch with my 15x10 steel rims. Also it is a manual transmission car.

The tires I'm looking at are:
Mickey Thompson ET Street SS (295/55/15) Supposedly they consider these a 28x12.5R15. It looks like a few years ago they used to have a 325/50/15 which Maddart used on his mini tub but unfortunately they are discontinued so the 295 is the biggest they make. I like the look of this tire and that it has "some" hydroplane resistance even though I hope to never drive in the rain.

Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro (Bias Ply): 28x12.5/15
This tire seems to have the widest section width at 13.1 on a 10 inch rim although the contact patch is similar to the ET Street SS so no additional rubber on the road. Bias ply might be good for my stick car but how would it handle on a street driven car that maybe will be at the track once or twice. Also I'd get the matching 8 ply front runners

Mickey Thompson ET Street R 325/50R15
Has the widest section width and the largest contact patch by 3/4 of an inch compared to the other Mickey Thompson tires. Probably the worst if I did happen to get caught in the rain but I guess I'd need to just pull over (which I'd likely do anyways with any of these tires).

Coker Protrac N50-15
Same size contact patch roughly as the Mickey Thompson ET Street R Tires. Bias ply tire so not sure how they'd be on the street as I haven't driven a bias ply tire vehicle before. Would also make sure I got the matching front bias ply tires from them.

Any others that I missed that you might suggest? Which ones would you recommend and or do you have experience with on the street?

I have forever run the sportsman pros. You CAN run them tubeless. They are the best I've found by far for street and track. They look great to boot. I run 25 on the street. 18 at the track.

I have only heard horrible things about Mickey Thompson. Err Cooper tires everyone around here swore by mickry tires. I let the others spin as I leave. I only believe people pay for the name.

I run my car 98% on the street. I have 325 50 15 nitto drag radial tires.
They have wet weather ratings where Mickey tires do not. That' the reason I went nitto route.
Traction is not a problem. I have a 4 speed and I test the clutch alot. My 630 hp stroker 340 with SS springs grab traction and barely spin. I leave about a 10 foot patch and it simply grabs so hard I can take the wind out of myself. Maybe this summer I take it to the track to see how well it hooks.

I like the look of that size tire. Are those the 28x12.5/15 Sportsman Pro's Did you move your axle back at all? Also are those 15x10 or 15x12 rims?

They are 28x12.50 sportsman pros.

The axle was moved back 1.5"

The wheels are 15x11.25

Did the tires rub on the front of the wheel well? I was under the impression that you can fit 28's with no rubbing on the front of the wheel well opening. Hoping that's the case as I just mounted my axle in the stock location.

if going w/ Nittos, what tire did you use up front?
Thats the problem, nitto offers virtually no realistic height 15 that would work on the front of our mopars. Ive been wanting to put a set of nittos on mine but have to stick with bfg radial ta on the back and bfg advantage ta on the front. Just wish bfg would come back out with their 15” drag radials, why they havent i have no clue. I dunno about you guys but i cannot stand mismatching tires front/rear especially different brands.

At the moment MT offers the only matchable setup.
