okay guys...biggest pet peeve at car shows

-
Let’s see...

Any car that was trailered to a show. I don’t care what it is, million dollar Hemi whatever blah blah blah. If you’re too chickensh*t to even put the rubber on the road to drive your car to a show, don’t go. That car is “cool” and expensive now for how it performed. If you don’t drive it, what’s the point? If your car won’t make it, you’re not much of a car guy. I don’t care if it’s a thousand miles round trip, I’ve done it, I’m nobody special. If the car won’t do it it’s not a car anymore.

Any car there not driven at least a thousand miles a year. Same deal. If your car actually runs and you can’t or won’t drive your car at least that much, it’s not a car anymore and you’re not a car guy, it’s just investment grade BS. Park it in your vault and stop pretending you’re a car guy.

Another “factory correct” restoration. Who cares. If you’ve seen one factory car, you’ve seen them all. That’s what museums are for. “Factory correct” muscle cars aren’t even a match for most Toyota Camry’s nowadays, you’ll get flogged with those bias ply’s, floppy suspension and drum brakes.

Any owner of any of the above cars that wants to point out that my car isn’t “real”, isn’t “numbers”, isn’t “correct”, or isn’t clean or polished enough. Yes, it’s “tribute” car. It’s faster than any original factory Demon ever was, handles better, and is a crap load more fun. And oh yeah, it’s probably dirty because I drove it here and would rather pay for gas and parts than someone to detail my car.

Not the original color? So what. Hemi Orange is Hemi Orange no matter what the fender tag says, it’s the same color. Not the original engine? So what. Just a couple of stamped numbers, looks the same, performs the same, rolled off the same factory line.

All that numbers crap is just a matter of wallet size, not performance. Cars are meant to be driven. Drive it til it breaks, fix it, drive it some more. If they metal rusts out, cut it out and weld new metal back in. Somebody rear ends you, pull the chassis on a rack, weld in straight parts and away you go. Everything else is just worrying about money.

And now you know why I only go to swap meets and don’t bother with shows anymore.

cruise nites = (LAWN CHAIR FARMS)
Love the cruise in's. We have quite a schedule of places to go. There's a truck stop 20 miles from me that has a cruise in 2nd. Tuesday every month. They get 125 cars in the middle of the summer. Great turn out for in the miidle of farm country.

Here's a Ricks List car show and cruise link for you guys in the Midwest. Home

My strangest car show experience was having a Rolls Royce park next to me. Then this old hippie guy gets out of it and his 20 year younger girlfriend (not a looker!) She starts going on and on about my car then walks up to me screaming and says, "I want you to know something! I want you to know that I was BORN IN THE BACKSEAT OF YOUR CAR!" I told her, "Nope, you sure weren't. There is no backseat in my car!" Then I got in my car and went home. Weirdos.

somehow I think its really stupid to pay money to display my car so someone can charge money for other people to look at my car

EXACTLY! I have said this so many times. We should get PAID to display our cars not the other way around. A spectator has ZERO investment, let them pay.

I stopped going to the race track because I used to run either my dad's cuda or a track Duster I used to have and they were lining up muscle cars with those tuner piles. I understand that tuners are fast and blah blah, but they will never be the same and I feel a tuner should race a tuner and a muscle should race a muscle. Problem is after awhile, all the muscle started disappearing and now I doubt you will find any kind of car over 30 years old.
Come to our local track.... you'll smile. :)
Most Cars and drivers look like 1979 :D

Well, after a nice 5 page ***** fest (LOL......just kidding, much of it is valid!), I will say I've also had some really good fun times at shows.
I've met some really cool people
I've seen some awesome cars
Good eats (but expensive!)
Open header contests
Hot chicks
Kids in awe
Crusin'with a few other cars to go eat after

There are some really great things about car shows. .....just sayin...

Signs or stickers that say "BUILT NOT BOUGHT" Get a life, I bought both of mine and drive them hard. When something breaks I fix it when they need waxed I do it, when my neighbor has problems with his I help him out. I have as much pride in my purchases as anyone else has with their 10 year restorations.

I will say, for the most part, The all Mopar shows are pretty good. The judged shows can suck especially if it's peoples choice. I have a sore azz about a guy in town that has a Swinger like mine. He and his mullet attracts many goat roper friends. He usually out places me because of all the votes. I come with 10 Mopar guys and they can't all vote for me. The guys paint is shiny and he has Cragars but he didn't jam the car when he painted it and it has 4 layers of crustys everywhere. He also spray bombed his engine without masking off anything. Over-spray everywhere.
Apparently someone disagrees.

If a guy goes to a car show, and is concerned AT ALL, about a trophy......don't make me finish my thought..

Lol. That's funny. I have been to a few shows last summer and never registered. That's fun. People wonder why.

every show i go to with the lil red express, theres always one in the crowd that says yup, used to have one identical to that but mine was green, black, blue, pink or any damn color but red.
Why is it that when people stop and talk near a truck at a show they have to lean over the tailgate and put their feet up on the bumper (which i had rechomed at a cost of 400 bucks!)

Truthfully, I've never showed a car. I don't mind walking through a car show, it's kind of fun/interesting.

yep! I have experienced all of those mentioned. And then I remember the youngster with his Dad/Mom/Grandpa/Grandma saying "that's neat - WHAT IS IT?" with the ensuing stories of fond memories and fun times. I thank the good Lord that He has blessed me with the ability and resources to share our hobby with others and another day to do it. All in all, the rest of these irritations don't amount to much.

Cars are the reason to go to a show, but the people and their stories are the reason for staying! That said, my biggest gripe is-for cryin' out loud-how many friggin' 69 Camaros did they make? Every show has at least one, most have several, and ALL have cowl induction hoods. Don't get me started on cowl induction hoods on everything else!

This one was tough! I have a factory original restoration. It isn't concourse but it's all original for the most part, and I don't think people are bored seeing it at a car show as not many V24 high impact Dusters are at them. True it probably isn't as fast as some new commuter cars but that isn't the point. My mom can beat up your mom! And as far as numbers matching, it may not mean much to you, but if I had a preference I'd sure rather see the H code and numbers that match than not. I do also drive mine, it's not a trailer queen. I don't walk by clones, I respect any car or any make or model that someone put effort into.

The best car show around me is Hot Alma Nights. No judging, no trophies, lots of food, and a dance. 10 bucks that goes to a charity. 400 to 500 cars u wont see at most car shows. Can drink a beer and walk around. Good times.

A. The 87 Caprice 4dr painted like a bass boat.
B. Fucked up spaghetti wiring in the engine compartment on a fresh restoration. ..aaaaaaahhhhhhh!
C. The 65 mustang, straight six, petty clean... For Sale sign... 50k
D. Dude getting bitched out, pushing a stroller next to his friend who's getting bitched out while pushing a stroller...blocking the whole freakin isle.

Every single Chevelle at a car show is an SS you can bet on it! LOL.
While true, I bet there's more 340s (demon/duster/swingers) on this site alone than Mopar ever built.

I hadn't been to a car show in probably 20 years, until this past summer. The GM guys are all over the spectrum, and the Mopar guys...well they're still snobby A-holes(e and b guys, no a bodies). Most of them could tell you a bunch of useless **** about build codes, but couldn't point out the distributor to win a prize. I never cared about Fords until recently, and I spent a bit of time checking them out and learning. Most of those guys were real car guys. It was fun checking out cars that I haven't seen a million times, and know little about.
