LD340 and NHRA

-
Correct me if i am wrong .... they allow aluminum cylinder heads but not LD340?,,,,,,Sounds like Edelbrock wants the whole cake to me ???? My LD340 stocker is forsale ....

aftermarket intakes should not be legal in stock, they generally do not crack or turn to junk. aftermarket heads should not be legal in STOCK; superstock O K, if port size etc. is modified to not exceed stock. back in the day I bought a good used ld340 for $20, and sold one for $40. Chrysler made and installed some production aluminum intakes, just not enough

for small block mopars the ld340 is no longer legal in STOCK, and Ed heads are not legal. In superstock Ed heads can be modified to be legal (reduce ports size) and ANY intake is legal. works for me

In order to be legal...it had to come off the factory assembly line....the LD340 did not...even though it had a factory part number on it.

So what's the problem ?
Not sure why the intake was ever legal.

NHRA legal Performer RPM aluminum cylinder heads for Stock and Super Stock racing classes. These heads are similar to Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads, however the NHRA Legal heads do not have any machining or hand grinding done on the ports & chambers, except for the seat guide bores. Heads feature the NHRA logo on the ends for easy identification. Heads are sold individually. Made In The USA!

Since they are 65 cc ..my guess is they are open chamber heads....wondering if the 11/32 valve stems are legal or do they need to open the guides up to 3/8.....

It is up to the racer and/or engine builder to make sure that the runner volume and combustion chamber CC's are no larger or smaller in volume than what their particular engine corrected horsepower is approved by the NHRA Race Committee. The runner and chamber volume CC's listed below are what they are supplied from Edelbrock, not that they are approved for this volume in your particular class.

Problem is simple...THE LD340 INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS NOT ON THE ENGINE WENT IT ROLLED OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE....that is nhra reason..

Thats what im saying. It is not a factory, assembly line part.
My question is, why was it EVER legal ?
It should have NEVER been legal in the STOCK class.

So again I ask (read post 25)

Some one wrote a letter to nhra and made a case to make it legal because of the part number....then the other brands started complaining and they wrote letters to nhra claiming it was never installed....nhra did some research on a 50 yr old intake and decided it was not offered from the factory

Tony,

I'll buy your friends cut up and rewelded LD340 for 250... :)

so if you bought your car new and had the dealer install the ld340 before deliver your factory car came with it?? Its a mopar accessory so why could it not come on it new. Its like adding on factory mud flap. This is all BS

Not installed at the factory is the difference.

How the car was delivered if hustle stuff was dealer installed is not "factory" installed.

Other than six pack intakes, what else?

I thought this was interesting about the heads. A few years ago I asked a Stock Elim. racer about the NHRA Edelbrock heads he had on his 340. He told me the heads were approved because usable original cast iron heads were getting harder and harder to find, and that the NHRA had approved a replacement aluminum head for the Chevy's several years before that. He also told me he had to put the weight savings from the aluminum heads back onto the FRONT of his car. Did the NHRA already approve an aftermarket intake for the Chevy's too? I dunno.

It should have NEVER been legal in the STOCK class.

The reason is because these parts are becoming scarce. That particular cast intake was a what, a three year deal on a limited run of models?

Accepted legal replacement parts for stock began with connecting rods, blocks, cranks, and now cylinder heads.......the consumables. Eventually the LD340 will be legal again as these parts continue to dry up and the whining in stock subsides.

heads listed above are legal for a 68 340........

I'd bet "308" would be the choice, if you could find a un cracked set

After purchasing my new 69 Swinger 340, I actually went and ordered and installed the Ld340, 3310 Holley, and the Hooker headers listed in the Hustle Catalog, from my Mopar Dealer, maintained warranty, and raced for decades. I still own/ drive the car today. Lol
