I am becoming more disappointed on my eBay front disk brake conversion. If the upper control arm ball joint to spindle problem wasn't bad enough what I'm about to mention is.

So on Friday my Scamp got it's first good run since the install. About 15 miles into it, I get knocking and shaking coming out of the right front wheel when applying the brakes but only at low speeds. It wasn't wheel bearings. Luckily I wasn't too far from home when it started. Got it home and immediately pulled the wheel. That wheel was so hot you couldn't hold the lug nuts. The rotor turned with a towel in hand, but you could see and feel how warped the rotor is. It shouldn't come as any surprise! When I installed the brakes the outboard disk pads were actually rubbing the side of the rotors, had to grind the pads to get clearance. See the pictures of that below, note they are both the same rotor. They are so off round those pictures are about 180 degrees from each other, notice the gap distance.

So I'm going have my machine shop turn the rotors and see if he can or will take anything off the side walls. And while I'm at it going to replace those cheap Chinese bearings.

I I'm understanding you, what I see there did NOT come from heat. It came because the casting is off center to start with. So are the stockers to some extend, never seen one hit the pads, though

One thing you could do, is drill a small hole, say, 1/8 just about where you have your blue arrow drawn, to monitor the wall thickness for certain

IMO, I would not have driven that car till I figured out what the underlying issue was, and correct it.

I really didn't realize it was that bad. And it drove fine. Hopefully my machine shop can do something. This kit was purchased through Pirate Jack on eBay. Not going to get those rotors at Autozone.

That's a common machining method. The rotor hat is not critical. Of course, if it hits the pads it is. I've turned literally thousands of drums and rotors through the years and that's not uncommon to see at all. Make sure the caliper is mounted correctly. Don't just assume. Double and triple check it.

We did have a few bad sets of rotors but have fixed the issue. We are happy to send out another set. Will provide tracking to your address shortly. We do fully take care of our customers and will do our best to fix your issue. Thanks!

As you can see above, I sent them an email last night and he responded back to me first thing this morning. I will be sure to report on the replacement rotors.

Okay so I received the new rotors from Pirate Jack. Took them to my machine shop, one was slightly off and needed some turning, he ran them both anyway. The centering is much better, not rubbing the pads at all. Just an FYI this kit uses the same pads that would fit a 73 4.5" I purchased a new set from AutoZone for 12 bucks. And I put in new Timken bearings with AutoZone seals again from a 73.

Going to take it out tomorrow, I'll get back to you!

That was probably a poor "targeting" job from the manufacturer ( not really Pirate Jack's fault entirely). Usually when the rotors are out of concentricity there...the extreme outside dia. runs out as well. If it's out too much, you will feel it as if your tires were out of balance.

Cut both dia's
