I'd say as long as the cable throw is correct per gear, even then it could be modified to change the distance the cable moves per gear. May have to get a cable made.
Down side is you'd be cutting up a brand new part and if you mangle it you're out some $$...but none of us have EVER done that before, I'm sure ;)

Not that this is going ot of much help but years ago I had a Turbo Action Cheetah shifter in my Dart with a 727. I took it out when I sold the car...and put it in my Ranger with a c-4. To get low gear I had to give up on park. Did not matter how I adjusted it, I could not have both. I took it to mean that the throws on the trans were a bit different so the gate that worked on a 727 would be different that the gate form a c-4. If this is true I would think trying to use a gm shifter would be a problem....I never verified this about the gate so....

Just looked at Turbo Actions site

http://www.turboaction.com/frame.html

link is to there home page, click on the shifter tab on the left side.....

and the gates are different on there shifters so I would guess that this applies to all the brands....

Look at the Pontiac and Olds versions. They are much more narrow.

The way that BM changes their shifters is they supply different shift levers. One thing I didn't like about my BM Pro Stick (other than the twitchy trigger on the street) is that the cable moves a VERY short amount, which makes any misadustment or slack a larger percentage of total movement. The ratchet BM, and the Pro Stick seem to pretty much use the same cable, and came with a "big bag" of several trans levers fer Ford, GM turbo, PG, Mopar.

I think you'll find, over the different brands, that it's a combo of different gates and levers.

Don't know anything specific about the Hursts

Incidently, I've done some Googleing, and found some hits on the Winters shifters, and it appears to me that "we might be gettin screwd" on things like replacement cables for Cheetahs.

Hursts come with a bunch of different cable brackets and trans levers also.
Hey, there's an idea.
If you know the approximate length you need I'd be will to part with any of the brackets and levers I don't need. (just pay shipping)

That's what I was getting at. The gate should be fairly easy to work with if you only change the length of the arm that moves the cable ( either at the trans or at the shifter ) . Further from the pivot will give you more cable travel per gate slot, closer to the pivot is less travel.
I had to do the same thing with my 46re setup with my Duster. The cable, trans brackets were from a column shift truck, shifter itself was a floor shifter from a Jeep cherokee. I ended up having to use the brackets from the Jeep trans and tweek the shifter bracket where the cable inserts for correct gear selector travel to match with shifter position.

I have mopar version bought from paddocks years ago
