I didn't see a POS topic anywhere, so I posted this is the non automotive area just to spite this GM.

We just got a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix SE back after loaning it to our oldest Son's girlfriend since her car died and she needed a car to get to work.
Every single electric controlled glass in the car didn't work (some stuck, some were down and wouldn't roll up)
Even the sunroof was stuck partially open.
One of the worst parts was cleaning all the dried and hardened duct tape glue off the car since they used that to keep the windows up.

I pulled all the POS cable controlled regulator assemblies and repaired them.
Most had pulled the cable end out of the nylon block that retains them and wound the control cable up in the electric motor drive housings.
All four windows work now, but the sunroof is going to get sealed up permanently closed once I get it back in the closed position by removing the arms that support it.
We are not putting any more money into this 500.00 car

It runs and drives great, and all the heat and AC stuff works as well as the stereo.
It's pretty quick being the 3.8 version
We bought one tail/brake light assembly since it was busted out and both headlights due to extreme fogging of the lenses before we loaned the car.

All in all, I hate this POS and it's cheap crap interior panels, switches and window controls.

I need to go find something on my Dart that could use fixing just to recover.:D

Been like that ever since it was new. GM interiors have been crappy for decades.

I had a 99 mercury cougar ones
They used plastic blocks to connect the sunroof to the motor
Couldn't find a single cougar over 35K that didnt have a leaking sunroof

Of course ford was smart enough to replace the plastic blocks with aluminum when they did the 2001 facelift, but refused to admit guilt and fix the plastic ones

I ended up finding a flooded out 2002 in Texas, but they wouldn't sell me the sunroof because (and I quote) "it is an electrical part"
I told em to sell it to me half priced and I'd wave the warranty on it, and they did

About 2 weeks after I got the new sunroof in and leak free, I totalled it

(I still had the old sunroof, so I swapped that back in and sold the 2002 unit on ebay for about 3 times what I paid for if)

Well, havin a car with a sunroof is a retard move in the first place.

Complaining about a 20 yr old car?
Really?
They were garbage to begin with!
I must be missing something.... Swiss hating GM..

You never hear me complain about my 46 year old car.:D
So yea, I'm complaining about a 20 year old car.

Hey some of these 80s and 90s cars are rarer than some of the Mopars we cherish thank to cash for clunkers. I would hate to be restoring one even now.

That’s because you own the right 46 yr old car.:poke:
The other one .... ehhhhh, not so much...

My wife once had a 1998 Olds Intrigue, the car did what it was suppose to do, reliable..
Anyway, with that heavy 3.8L v6 mounted up front over the drive wheels, with decent tires on, that car was a ‘snow day’ cruser.
Would absolutely pull away from a dead stop in heavy snow with no wheel spin, felt stable when moving and stopped true.

The infamous (now gone) much hated 95 Olds Cutlass left here with barely 50k on the clock. And it wasn't a "big family of kids" so the windows/ doors are not particularly abused. The driver's window motor failed years ago. They are NOT designed to come out. Found a YouTube video you cut some of the door panel, and can drill OUT RIVETS to remove the motor. Then tear the motor apart and bypass the solid state fuse device.

One time I was in line at a drive up and there's a similar Olds ahead of me. Just like me, SHE OPENED HER DOOR TO TALK to the speaker because the window motor failed. LMAO

The ashtray "track" was a nother (plastic) POS in that car. Broke easily just trying to plug a GPS into the lighter-which is mounted in the tray

Happened more then once, that I would leave a car parked outside overnight in the michigan winter and the windows would be froze shut in thier tracks
Had to open the door when using the drive trough

Some things never change. My wife had an '07 trailblazer and that thing was falling apart at 30K miles. The clips that retained the driver door panel (one big giant plastic piece that covered the whole door interior) broke. Of course reproductions weren't available so it got screwed on with a couple of discreetly placed self-tappers. A/C switch failed and the blower would turn off and on by itself (except when you wanted it to lol). Letsee....center console lid broke, door handle broke, and it kept fouling out one of the engine sensors. I was so happy to get rid of it!

The design "features" on this 04 GMC Sierra I just "had" to buy are pretty bad
The headlight switch is so damn automatic that I'm SERIOUSLY thinking of installing a couple LEDs in the dash to show when the park/ head lights are on. The thing is, there is no "off." The switch is SPRING RETURN to the "0" position, but if they are off, and you mistakenly "spring" the knob there, it turns them ON!! There is about 6 switches there and I understand mostly 2 of them.

One morning I got to work in the dark/ cold with my heavy coat. I'm not a big guy. 5 11 and 180.. I unbuckled the belt, it slid down my shoulder. Opened the door and it only would open about 8". WTF!!! Turns out the BELT SLID DOWN and NEATLY HOOKED right onto the open front of the door handle!!!

GMC COULD NOT AFFORD to put a God Damn door lock on the passenger door!!!! ---on my "fancy loaded" model, but DOES SO ON the base model trucks!!!

The lighted dash displays are a PITA, and there are about 20 buttons all over the steering wheel to access them. I have no idea what most of em do. Just getting to the damn odometer is an exercise. I finally discovered the easy way is just bump the odo reset button and the odo pops up

The radio works good, except

They put a bunch of stupid **** UP ON THE MIRROR including an annoying pilot lamp for something. When you try and "do something" with the mirror about half the time the damn (not activated never will be) communications system/ Sirious radio starts to mumble crap.

AND I STILL HAVE NOT FIXED THE BRAKES

^^WHY^^? Did I buy this? Because I did not want ANY overhead cam V engine....PERIOD. This leaves a few Ferds, the Vortec/ LS Chev, and a hemi. I did look at the newer hemi trucks, but I don't like how they "sit" and the no1 plug is further back in the bay (I swear) than the no7 plug is in the Sierra. I just did not figure I could "work on" (maintain) the damn things. I did not want the Ferd spark plug problems, so..................

They've made them cheaper and cheaper with every decade. That's the name of the game. It's all about profit.

In the world of conserve and recycle, most parts replaced on these fuel efficient vehicles end up in the landfill. Absolutely nothing is repairable. If its repairable, you need a freaking master’s degree in engineering.

Having a GM or Ford car is a retard move in the first place.

Agree, my wifes 2017 ford just had the engine replaced w/ only 50,000 on the clock . Luckily it was still under the extended warranty she bought !
