My starter engages on my slant 6, 225. When the starter goes to disengage I get alittle noise. Bearing?? Does it need pressed on by machine?

Would this part fix the problem.

Starter "drive shaft" runs on two bushings-no bearings. Is unlikely that bushings are bad, but possible. Remove the starter to inspect. Is more likely that the leather washer behind the driven gear is bad. We can help you if you have pics.

My car is in resotration since August 2019. it has been sitting and not started. I recently went to start it and the welder guy blew out my Pertronix. It would crank but no starter. I think I strained the starter trying to figure out what was wrong and why it would not start. Before the no start issue the factory starter worked great. I think I hurt the little guy. I did recently buy a mini starter. I hate to chuck out the factory starter if it only needs minor work. When the factory starter disengages it's more like a slight sanding sound.

Murray. Starter is still on car. Getting ready to move the car to the paint booth.

That starter can make about 4 or more sounds that I know of and without a video, IDK how anybody could point to what it could be,lol.
That said, I think,FWIW, Murray's on the right track.
I just have a lil trouble relating the before and after business.

Also, FWIW, I have reconditioned and/or rebuilt a few dozen Mopar starters over the years, and only rarely did they need bushings..

Good luck

OEM starter has a friction washer in it to prevent a short run on. I would be guessing to say that is the problem. If I had already invested in a mini starter I would bolt it on.

As Red said, there is a fiber or leather washer behind the Bendix of the starter. It acts as a brake to stop the Bendix from spinning. When the washer gets dust or dirt on it and gets dry from sitting, it will chatter. Sometimes a drop or two of oil will stop this. Cleaning or replacing is preferred.

Thank you all.
