These heads were total rust. 1week later this is how they look. The rust just comes off with a stiff bristle brush. 10 minutes on each head. Kim

yup. now we need a contest between the vinegar and the baking soda / battery charger methods

I chose the white vinegar because it has the same acidity as the acv. And also cause they only had 3 gallons and I needed 10 jugs. Kim

Great! But do you understand why? It’s simple chemistry, but do you understand it?

Can you explain it?

you need to use baking soda or something to kill the acid or they will rust back up worse in no time.

Already done it.
The vinegar is nice because you don't use electricity but you have to neutralize the acid in the vinegar either by flushing it with lots of water or using washing soda or baking soda.
Wash soda and 12 volts works a lot faster and the nice thing is you don't have to worry about an acid continuing to eat the metal.

Vinegar is simply a solution of Acetic Acid diluted with water to a strength of 5% which is still strong enough to dissolve rust.

As an acid it will keep on eating untill neutralized by being Flushed Away with water or neutralized with a base.

Washing soda and baking soda are a base. Either will work but washing soda is better I think.

Washing soda is Na2CO3 or Sodium Carbonate while baking soda is Sodium Bicarbonate or NaHCO3. Both can be synthetically produced by the Solvay process. ... Washing soda is caustic and should not be consumed, inhaled or applied to the skin. In terms of texture, baking soda is white and fine while washing soda is coarse.

Recently bought a bunch of Knipex tools. Pliers slam locked up from sitting in the weather. White Vinegar in the Ultrasonic cleaner and just a few minutes later you would have thought they were just bought. Vinegar ain't no joke.....

Back in my junk yard days I was shown to fill up seized motors with coke a cola, the next day they were spinning like tops.

Try it in your dishwasher (white vinegar) when you do a load. I dump a three second count into each load and you wouldn’t believe the difference.

So do you mix the baking soda with water at what ratio-and spread it over the parts?
