The power of white vinegar

Ok as promised, my nasty crankshaft going into the soup, with pics
A little out of order but the crank is pretty rusty. Ill check my Mopar kimchi in 3 days. I tossed the little chip in its own container to monitor status.

Looking Good !

That is going to clean up nice.

If rusted badly sometimes have to pull it out of the vinegar and wire brush the bad rust spots, then put it back in the vinegar dunk for another 24 hours.

Then rinse with distilled water and scrub pad. Blow dry, then WD-40 and a scrub pad to shine it up. Wipe off excess WD-40 with towels.

Ready to polish the journals then,
ready to store, or build your engine.

Day 1...before and after, then i rubbed with scotchbrite. Looks nice, obvious pitting. Bonus shot of vice where some vinegar got onto anvil. Nice!

Great! But do you understand why? It’s simple chemistry, but do you understand it?
Made fun of you? When?

Find just one post I ever made making fun of you and quote it here. You can’t because I never did.

We asked you to explain, and instead you sit here with "I KNOW AND YOU DON'T" You are the chemist? Why don't you explain?

"

No I don’t, I can’t remember. Let’s have ur explanation, I know ur dying to tell us. Kim
Nope. You found it, you explain it."

You said it, I'm just asking for the explanation

This thread gives me hope for cleaning up my 400 crank. It has some pretty good surface rust on it. I'll make a tank as I have some spare 5/8" plywood. I'll make a thread on it when I do it. Thanks for this, yall.

Yes good deal on your 400 crank that will clean up good.

I have another 318 crank to degrease and throw in the vinegar dunk tank for clean up tomorrow.

I sure hope it does. Your stuff gives me hope.

Scotch brite scuff pads work good to scrub clean after the vinegar dunk.

If things are rusted bad, may have to pull it out of the 24 hour dunk, scrub clean what you can and dry it off.

I use distilled water for scrubbing after it comes out of the vinegar dunk, helps to neutralize the vinegar. Dry it off, then put it back into the vinegar dunk for another 12 hours overnight.

Scrub clean again, dry off and then scrub again with WD-40 and a scotch brite to shine it up and get rid of the quick flash rust. Now it is treated so it won't rust and is ready to final polish when you get time.
