I'm getting rid of my crappy aftermarket valve cover breathers and going with a pcv valve, air oil separator, and a push on breather that vents to a factory '68-'69 small block air cleaner. Does the pcv valve and breather require a baffle underneath?

Wouldn't the breather pull oil if it doesn't have a baffle underneath?

Air is pulled in the breather when there is no blow by, the air getting sucked into the intake from the PCV is going out the crankcase and pulled in through the breather. At WOT when you might have blow by the air would go out through the breather

spectre makes a baffled grommet set for valve covers-pcv and oil breather

One thing you could do is use the old Ford type breather which has a grommet/ PCV valve in the top. Look up the old 390. You could get those in chrome. Of course nowadays the chinese............

Those "look like" the junk ones I was complaining about. Mine the bayonet ears would not hold, just bent. The old style Fords, if you can find them, are very robust and have a unique appearance, may be "expensive"

This is "it." Might be worth it if it stays in place. I ran one for years on my 440 Cal something covers, and the 340 / 360, later on, same type valve covers. If you get the right pieces, you can have an open breather hose like this one, or a grommet and PCV instead

PCV valves are by design closed when at idle (high manifold vacuum sucks valve closed, may vent slightly) and closed when WOT (spring pressure pushed 'ball' against other seat). only active on part throttle. Any vent needs to be baffled as oil will stick onto anything it touches, so any twist and turn you give it will help. My Mazda has a maze made of rubber under a plate that is included with the valve cover gasket. Its hidden under a plate so most of the time its never used.
