Not a mopar but....I have to put a new head gasket on a 25 year old merc 2 cycle,25 hp.
Should I use gasket sealer and what torque for the bolts?
Thanks for the help

It depends on what type of gasket you use. If it's a composition style, no sealer. If it's the steel shim type, spray it with Copper Kote. Opinions vary for sealant on bolts, but I always do it on every head bolt I touch, whether they go into water, or they are blind holes. Keeps them from seizing up if you ever have to remove them and affects torque very, very little. I always use red high tempo RTV. Sorry, I cannot help with the bolt torque. What's the thread size and do they screw into iron or aluminum?

That should be a no on the sealer. As for the Torque specs, you need to google it.... I am sure the info is out there.....

Post the model and brand of outboard. I have some service literature on OMC/ Johnson/ Evinrude

Thanks Rob.
Composition gasket. I haven't removed the bolts yet

Go to Marineengine.com and dig around thru there. I downloaded factory parts manual. Handy as heck. I'll chk once I'm home from work.

Thinking they are 5/16 bolts. Guessing at 15 foot lbs. or 180 inch lbs.
