Took a fall damn this hurts, might be X-rays

I’m so sorry this happened to you Del but I’m glad you got a little attention from the ER babes..... that’s always a good thing. I’m just bummed no more boat posts. I’m going to miss those engine tests and boat rides!! Damn!! Come on 2021

Yeh, and "I thought" I'd been bein' careful, because the last thing I want is trapped in a box in some "facility" full of germs. I am already behind in "stuff I wanna do"

Bad night last night. I was doing "well" yesterday, but must have slept wrong. Woke up with pain, something poking. I've been sleeping in the recliner which is fairly comfortable. God this sucks.

Ice and ibuprofen help, been there. You have a month of "take it easy" in your life now. Recliner is a good idea, had to use mine for a month after a shoulder operation. All the best.

They gave me hydrocodone which I cannot take routinely, it tears up my stomach. So I "save" it for stuff just like this morning. But the destructions tell you not to take additional pain relief especially Tylonol along with. Ibuprophen is not strong enough for most anything I have. I have been having back pain and some days end up taking about 9 of them through the day. It barely makes a dent. I am screwed on pain relief, have no idea what I can take that is still "legal" and works, without tearing me up

I got morphine when I broke my ribs and was not on this planet for 4 days. Lucky me but it just prolonged the pain and I really wanted more of those pills badly when they were gone.
I still feel that injury sometimes. Took months before I could work with no issues. I don't know how a pro football player can play with ribs broke. They must get a shot or something.

I feel for you Del, in October of last year I was racing flat track on a motorcycle and had a decent “off” that ended me for 4 months. Broke 5 ribs, punctured a lung, broken collar bone, and broken shoulder blade (scapula). At 40 I just didn’t handle it like I did when I was 20. I look at it as a positive, at least we get more of your wisdom on the forum because you’ll be reading and typing a lot. Take care of yourself.

One piece of advice I can offer is, if your pain meds are not working go in and make that very clear to your doctor. Each of the pain receptors in our brains react differently and what works for you may not work for someone else. They will adjust your meds accordingly and get you something that works. Hydrocodone never works for me just makes me sick. I told them that and they gave me something that did work.

Doc gave me Tramadol. So far no sign of stomach upset. It says it can be taken with or without food. Things are somewhat more comfortable, I got her to write me a prescription for one of those stretchy girdles, then bought a second one. I put one down low, then the second damn near up to my armpits, they overlap. When I'm up and around it makes things A LOT better

Well that's good. Sounds like the new doc is a winner.

Get well soon. I saw others "could be worse" posts here. I have one too if you need another.
I'm surprised to hear you got pain pills. I sure can't get some. I told them so long as I stay seated I can keep my pain level around 3. So they say "stay seated". Then they say drive across town to physical therapy. WTF? I also told them my pain level hits 10 before I can finish shaving. Thay stopped short of saying "So grow a bread" LOL
Anyway... How to take those pain pills... Omeprazole. Takes about 3 days to get it in your system and working good. A few Tums helps. I have stomach ulcers so I take omeprazole every day anyway. I have for many years annnnd that likely where the stage 2 kidney failure comes from. You'll still get the typical constipation from the pain pills. Little Debbie oatmeal cakes or some source of fiber helps with that.
I'm getting my pain relief from Crown Royal. If not for the omeprazole I couldn't do that either. I just this minute though about what the Crown is doing to my kidneys. Ooooooh well,
Its too hot to do a lot now so just take it easy, get well by better weather. Notice I didn't say the f word, "fall"?

I take Tramadol every day. It’s pretty effective stuff.

BTW...didn’t your doctor tell you to NOT sleep in your bed with broken ribs?

When I broke mine, I was told explicitly to sleep on the floor and not on a bed. Of course, that was 27 years ago so maybe that’s changed.

Glad to hear they got you something that is working and not making you sick. My girlfriend remembered what they gave me it was fentanyl. Also a concoction of some over the counter stuff, Tylenol, Motrin, when I told them I would not be taking opioids unless the pain got unbearable. Which it did from time to time. And @yellow rose is correct, they told me not to sleep in a bed, not that I could have, if I laid down I couldn’t get up, I slept in a powered recliner for 4 weeks. Take care Del.

I am NOT sleeping in bed. I only tried that the first night, and was at the hospitol at 5:30AM next morning. Actually, "internet wisdom" suggests you do not sleep horizontally, as it can put pressure "on things." I wish to hell my recliner WAS powered, and I may get one. Actually I might just "redneck" this one as I get a few days "better" "Some where out there" I have a couple of actuators off a hospital bed, and might "red neck" one of them simply to the rear of the chair here. I'm thinking a simple tie point up in the back, and a simple tie down at the bottom. "We'll see" My recollection is this is a fairly long actuator, so it will have a fair amount of "range."

I can’t imagine sleeping in a bed with broken ribs. Any movement can give you pain that makes your blood hurt.

When my current chair finally gives up the ghost I’ll be buying powered chair. Bought the wife one a year ago. The button is nice.

The button was essential for me. But Del I can’t even imagine trying to build a powered recliner while dealing with broken ribs. Please just buy one. Or have some friends come over and build it for you. Let your body heal, I know it’s hard but you could make things worse. Just relax for a bit Mr. Go Getter.

PHECK!!! I got to choking on something, and 'blew out' the side. God DAMN that hurt. And it hurt worse with a truss wrap on. So now I'm in the recliner trying to relax. It is going to be a LONG night.

Man I hope you get better soon, I've never had broken ribs, cracked one once, that was unpleasant, can only imagine the hell you're going through. Take it easy and get better!

Dang man, take it easy and get healed up.

Getting old sucks, we gotta be careful out there. Just a couple months ago I tipped over a ladder with me on it. landed on my feet but then fell backwards onto the ladder. Lucky, I got a couple scrapes on my arms but didn't break anything or hit my head. Could have been worse.

Today is better than I expected. All last night, after coughing, I felt like I had a "knot" stuck in my left side. It is somewhat more comfortable today. I am taking it DARNED easy!!!
