Well, it's back home now all I have to do is reassemble the whole damned car:lol:. Here's some photos with before shots at the beginning. I'm having a hard time taking good pics of the new paint because it's so shiny all you see is what's next to it reflected in the paint! Work done by Innovaative Auto Body in Belfair, WA. I have nothing but good things to say about them, and the car was in and out in 2 1/2 months. More new paint pics in second post.

This car is being built as a long distance road trip car. The first one will start here in Washington State at the start of the Pacific Coast highway - Rt 101, go south to Santa Monica, turn east and follow Rt 66 to Chicago, then jump on the old Lincoln Highway to the east coast timed to go to Carlisle and the Nats in Columbus and whatever else we can cram in. We plan to leave the car with relatives for a year. Come back and hit the shows again, then drive back across the country probably doing Rt 66 again and home to Washington State.

So why Plum Crazy paint? My wife and I plan to take lots of long trips in the car, so I sat her down and asked her what she wanted in the car. She said comfortable seats (check), a good sound system (check), easy to handle on the road (check), cold AC for the desert sections and the east coast heat in summer (check), oh and one more thing.... my wife is pretty conservative when it comes to flashy cars, but then she said, ..." you know that beautiful purple color they used in 1970???". And there you have it !!!

go south to Santa Monica
Say hi to Claud Short Dodge (out of business now but the building is there as a Mitsubishi dealer IIRC) that's where my 67 dart came from.

You ought to do a tracking thing so some of us less adventurous can tag along for a few miles, just don't share where you are stopping for the night.

Wow that looks awesome!! Thats gonna be a beautiful car can't wait to see more!

Holy crap, when I saw the first few pictures after reading the thread title, my first thought was "Boy did you get screwed on that paint job!", then I scrolled down and saw what it actually looks like now!. Woah boy was i glad to be wrong!. Beautiful!

Looks awesome!! In 2019 my wife and I traveled Route 66 to CA, then up the coastal Hwy to WA, then back home to MN, it was so much fun! We went 5,300 miles in 12 days, they say it takes 2 weeks to really enjoy Route 66 and I believe it, I really hope to go back some day and see it again, I really miss it and the mother road is so amazing, be sure to see the older parts of the toad where it exists, there are some places in OK that look like a frontage road and deserted....but it was old 66! The people we met along the way were great, awesome shops and greasy spoon restaurants! The coastal Hwy was also awesome along with the views and redwoods too....amazing trip and I think about it all the time, we took our road trip car, wasn’t old like yours but really fun to drive!

Car looks awesome. You are at one of the best parts (next to driving it that is)...reassembly. You finally get to see all your hard work come together. Road trip sounds cool too. I hope to make a trip down route 66 at some point myself. Love the color by the way. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

I'd really like to do that, now to figure out the necessary technology. If nothing else I'll do a trip log...

I wanted to try and at least get some decent gas mileage, so I'm going with a 318 with 302 heads. But then I can't resist a little wow factor when you open the hood, so I'll top it off with an Edelbrock D-66 with a pair of 500 AFBs set up progressively. Also looking at a Silver Sport A-41 overdrive 4 speed, but they sure are pricey...

That'll definitely look pretty cool.

I can see the "318 eight-pack" logo quite nicely in my head... :)

Nice! I thought the first pics were of it back from the shop. I thought what the heck did he pay them to do, beat the crap out of it? Lol

The wife has good taste. That looks good!

Great looking ride and half the fun is putting it back together.

The paint looks great! Thanks for the great review of the paint shop. Not many places want to work on old cars. Side note, my 1969 D100 was sold new at Claude Short Dodge in Santa Monica.

I got onto this shop after they resurrected on of our local Mopar club member's vehicle - a 1959 Fargo pick-up (Canadian Dodge truck). A couple years ago they stopped doing all collision work on newer cars and went to just doing hot rods, muscle cars and antiques.
