i have a wiper motor part # 3431408 which i believe is a 3 speed. it just quit so i am wondering if anyone knows where to purchase a remanufactured one. How would i test my switch in case that is what it is? or should i just replace it to see if that fixes it.

3 speed wiper motors have stopped being remanfacutured about 3 years ago for everyone. People just don't update the parts books.

it has to be torn down to determine the problem
i get an estimate and go from there
my zip code is 27021

I just hot wire them to test the motor. There's a guy here in SoCal that rebuilds and restores them to show condition. I just can't remember his name at the moment. Oh, and a '71 motor should be a variable speed one, not a 3 speed. They look the same though.

good to know it is a variable speed.... when i punched the number into the internet 3431408 came up as a 3 speed. variable makes sense though

A lot of the problems I've seen with the 3 speed/variable motor has been the wiring insulation from the motor windings to the gear box switches. It's common for those to short out on the housing.

I may have one from a 73 Sport in the garage. If you want to pay shipping and I still have it, it's yours.

To my knowledge, the motors and housings are all pretty much the same and can be interchanged. In my Barracuda for example is a later model 3 speed motor installed and it fits perfectly. The only difference on this believed 74 motor is the output shaft from the gear housing. In my sale ad, I attached pictures showing the dimensions of the output shaft - that should be checked. To modify the linkage arm to this output shaft, or change the output shaft should be easily doable. Important is to have the gears properly clocked and the linkage adjusted - but the shop manual provides all information.

thank you for your offer. I would definitely take it and pay the shipping (ground parcel post) if you have it. Have a Happy New Year!
