2463430-20 is stamped onto the block. My neighbor has this block sitting in his garage said he will sell it to me for 40 bucks. I believe it is RG SERIES 1960-67 which makes it an aluminum block right?
Comes with just the block and crankshaft. An aluminum block sounds interesting and possibly rare?
Is the rust damage shown in the photo beyond salvageable?

I was thinking the same thing but when I look up the stamped engine numbers it says it's an rg series engine . Are there steel rg series blocks?
#2463430 is a 1966 block. The aluminum blocks were made in the very early 60's.

Thanks for correcting me with the right info . I guess the engine stamped number list I was using was incorrect or I read it incorrectly.
Can you possibly shoot me in the right direction to learn how to properly decode these motor numbers in the future .

I have a couple part and casting number books. I see these guys are out of stock but someone might have one. Galen Govier compiled the information. Chrysler Corporation Part & Casting Numbers Book 1962-74 Volume 1, Decoding Books, 147-GGB101 Reproduction, NOS and Used Mopar Muscle Car Parts

Thanks for that tip. I'll remember that

First giveaway that it’s not aluminum is the block has freeze plugs. Aluminum blocks didn’t have freeze plugs.

Second visual giveaway is there’s a casted emblem in the side of the block, Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto.

Aluminum blocks were 1961 only however there were some 62 Dodge Lancers and Valients that ended up with the block.

Aluminum slants used a special cast iron head and head gasket because the water passages were different on the aluminum block. Easy way to tell is the head will have the word “Special” cast into the head along the intake/exhaust manifolds side of the head.

Bestinfo source for aluminum slants is Steve Mangete.

Sold my last aluminum slant to a guy in Nebraska.

Aluminum blocks had cast heads so can show rust and corrosion

common problem with the aluminum block was corrosion where the head mates with the block. Electrolysis along the mating surfaces. Service manual stressed the use of antifreeze with these motors. Most people used straight water back in the day. I guess you could get rust from the head.

RG is a raised deck G series engine, ala 225 or 198. The 170, low deck is a just a G.
