I may be purchasing a 1974 Dart , a two hour drive from me, with no title, kinda rough. I got to thinking, aren't all 1974 Darts Big bolt pattern and front discs? The guy wants 500 for the whole car, got to tow it on my dolly all the way home- I was thinking of getting it anyway just because any old mopar on my island is worth it if not already turned to compost. But this will really, really save me lots of money on the front disc conversion, and allow me to run the tires I want to!

No, not everything in 74 was bbp. Drum cars were avail for sure, and could be sbp.

If it has OEM front discs, it should be big bolt pattern. I never heard of small bolt pattern discs starting in 1973.

I don't think anybody claimed that. "It seems" that V8 cars with drums were BBP, /6 cars with drums were small BP

I agree with the above ambiguity. I would bet that it being a slant six car, it probably has drum brakes and a small bolt pattern. (Try and find out if it has left hand threads on the drivers side too.)

Starting in ‘73 all V8 cars had BBP disks. Slant 6 cars were still drum/drum standard, and they stayed SBP. But disks were available as an option, and were triggered by some other option packages (like the towing package).

So a ‘74 /6 car could be either BBP or SBP. If it has front disks, it’s BBP. If it was originally drum/drum, then it would be SBP. Mid-year ‘76 all cars went front disk, and so SBP went away at that point.

Even if it is SBP drums, it would still have the large upper ball joint UCA’s, so a disk swap is one step easier.

Mopar used the small bolt pattern clear through to 1976. Slant and 4 wheel drums=small bolt pattern. All the way to 1976.

LH threads ended in 1970.

In addition to having bbj upper control arms, I think there are some desireable disk brake swaps that make use of the 73-76 drum spindles. Tried to get a set off a Valiant in a yard, but couldn't get the rusted bolts on the eccentric cams loose before it was crushed.

76 dart, sport slant 6, od 4 speed, drum brakes, small bolt pattern
