Any love for a 373 SB

The one advantage I see of using a 340 main diameter crank at 3.58 stroke would be the ability to keep bearing speed lower than the 360 main version... that can be beneficial in higher rpm situations
and a lil bit lighter crank where it matters most.... but the 360 version a lil stronger,..where it matters most, journal overlap....small differences but worth thought!

Very interesting topic so my question is what I can do with the early 71 360 block it is currently std bore almost no ridge at all I am interested build 371 built I could .20 oversize piston and decide steel crank any thought?

I’d keep as much cylinder wall thickness as possible since there really isn’t big power gains in over boring. It would add up but not at .030 or .060. It’s just not worth it. Keep the walls thick and stiff for less for the and more sealed in power.
You will NEVER notice the 5 cid difference!

Cool I figure I rather keep bore as thick it will live long way, I thinking build J heads 2.02 /1.60 and flat hydraulic cam comp up ultra roller rockers and beehive springs so at this point not sure what cam I would use and use this engine in street.

wish it were for sale , hard to find anything today
The actual odd ball stroke MP cranks? YES! Very hard to find.
Aftermarket cranks? EZ-PZ. There out there available in ether main journal size and in 3.31, 3.58 or the 4.00 stroke. Bigger strokes are available. Hughes engines has one and at the moment, I forget who, also offers yet another stroke of 4.00+. There have been or still are 4.15, 4.17 & 4.25 small block stroke cranks.

Pretty sure scat sells them. MP cranks were made by scat.
*I think* you are correct. I couldn’t remember there name. Eagle was stuck in my head. I thought it may have been them. Overall, I cannot remember.

Hot Rod Magazine did an article on the car "Hoover's Mover" (The notchback Barracuda was owned by Tom Hoover.) and the 360 used OEM low compression 340 pistons. This was done before the availability of readily available, off-the-shelf performance 360 pistons. The piston tops were actually milled & beveled to get clearance and the compression to be livable with the 3.58" stroke. The wrist pin bosses were machined and skirts were cut down to provide clearance for the 360 crank counterweights. I have the article buried somewhere in my house. It has a lot more tech info, including heads, intake, cam, etc. I'll look for it when I have time but can't guarantee I'll find it. It was an inspirational article in my younger years.

It was the Feb. 1976 issue of Popular Hot Rodding if anybody can find a copy. Now I just gotta find my original.

Oh your talking about a new crank purchase like in right now, today? I guess that is possible with the COVID backlash of delays going on. Otherwise, by compare to defunked MP parts… I stand my ground.

Thank you !!!
Everyone is on a ( DIFFERENT JOURNEY )
Build what u want and enjoy it !!!!
F the critics .

If I had a dollar for every time someone has told me what was "wrong" with my old mopars I could afford to build another one. I build my cars my way on my budget. I couldn't care less if someone else says its wrong or doesn't like it. Mark Wormans of the world can kiss my foot.

The Unsolicited and random opinions stated as facts from the roaming know it all’s is annoying.
