People getting defensive at car shows!

-
Well young Sir I would not worry about it at all. And make no mistake those folks rip everybody regardless of age. I often take my Cuda to shows just letting folks see another side of the hobby. I can assure you when you roll in with a beautiful Cuda unstrap from the roll bar, set all toggle switches to off and toss steering wheel on dash and climb out, them boys are on you like ants on a sugar cube. How could you do this to a Cuda, is the whole front fiberglass, is there nothing original on your car? I just shrug and say” that’s why your key don’t fit” But then some young kid swings by and I tell him it is fine if he wants to sit in the car for a pix, he looks at his Father for assurance and boom we are doing photo ops with the next generation of gear heads. The Father thanks me over and over and the kid is beaming with an ear to ear grin! Makes it all worth it.
Yeah what made the cruise night worth it was when I was leaving, at least 10 kids came out of nowhere (ages 8-18) and all started filming the car and telling me how cool it was, and just enjoying the six cylinders of fury. Gave them a couple revs and boy were they shocked to find out I was younger than half of them!

My 70 340 Swinger has a 72 scamp fender tag on it.

Take your car out in public, it's fair game to have pictures taken. Public domain. Is it nice if someone asks as a courtesy, yes indeed.

I love this one from a car gathering. Friend comes up to his car, pass door open, 4-5 yo kid eating ice cream sitting in the pass seat of the car. Ice cream running down his face, clothes and all over the interior. Mom has another rugrat out of the stroller, changing a fully loaded diaper on the trunk lid. Yeah he wasn't too happy with that one. That's my favorite unappreciated use of a car that doesn't belong to you at a car show. Even if you asked in that case as a courtesy, the answer is NO!

I had a similar story with my harley, me and the wife are sitting at a small tourist town in the Pa Pocono region. we are on the deck of a pub order food etc. and my bike is about 100 yards away, and she says "what are they doing on your bike?" I look its what looked like a couple of eastern European immigrant men sitting on it and getting selfies. By the time I got over there it was two women sitting on it, I quietly walked up behind them and said "nice bike isnt it?" with a cold dead straight face. the one looked at me and the smile ran way from her face and said "oh is this yours?" I was like "yeah" got on it started it up and rode it over to where my food was getting cold. yeah people are assholes these days i dont feel sorry for any of em. But I figured they are women what to do kick them in the ***? LOL!

man I didnt know what i was going to do when I got over there but when it was two women I was like "ok get the bike and get outta here..." immigrants are one thing but young people in this country are so entitled they will destroy your property and wonder why you are pissed off. theyll say "you have insurance dont ya...?"

The people at normal car shows just ruin it for me.
(not cruise nights or charity shows, for some reason everyone is happier and less cynical at those.)
I went to a cruise night at a local burger spot that happens once a month. Nothing too big, around 25 cars. I set up with my little slant 6 survivor and just start enjoying the show. Since I am the youngest guy there, wouldn't you know it; EVERYONE IS AN EXPERT all of a sudden. Most of the guys there were nice and liked my plans and what I had done, but at least 25% of them were just ripping me a new one over every little detail.
However, the next morning I went to another show. (formal judged type one) and the same thing happened. but this time EVERYONE IS A EXPERT. (over 90%) EVERYONE I talked to except three told me I was a.) doing something wrong b.) going to my dad and asking him questions about the car, (which is a honest mistake,) then when I started to answer their questions, they got all pissed and tried to talk over me!

All but three.
Those same Dickheads are the very ones to say most Young'uns are too lazy to be bothered with "real" hotrods, can't understand why the hobby isn't as strong as it was even 15yrs ago, then re-join their "Uppity Club" buddies, laughing at/complaining about the New Kid. It's up to Us to encourage & set a better example to the next generations......

No offense meant to anyone with newer cars, but that's one thing I detest at car shows....even though we don't go anymore. What the HELL does a brand new Challenger have any business winning best of show? When there are guys who've built their cars from the ground up scraping money up, searching for hard to find parts for their vintage cars, only to be won out by something somebody just bought new? It's bullshit and it's unfair. I like some of the new stuff, but it's bullshit to have them judged in the same class as something somebody "BUILT".

I was at a cruise night in my mid restoration phase. Paint and roof had just been done and looked awesome....imho. The 5.9 magnum was dirty with rusty old headers. A guy with a 71 chevelle big block car pulls in next to me. Car was beautiful, nut and bolt resto. I can't imagine the expense for it. He got out and looked at my car before moving on. He said to me, "this could be a really nice car if it weren't for those headers". I just chuckled and said it's getting there. Dipshit.

That's the kinda guy that gives car shows and cruise ins a shitty name. What an asshole. I wouldda told him "Yeah? You'd be a nice guy if you weren't such an asshole"....and I really would have, too.

THIS^^^^ right here is what I meant with my response. If someone doesn't ASK, as far as I'm concerned, it's kinda a invasion of privacy. "I" wouldn't just walk up and pop pictures of someone's fender tag without asking and I expect the same courtesy. ....and I wouldn't take a picture of anybody's fender tag anyway. I mean, WTF does somebody need with it?

He is probably the guy who payed somebody to do the resto for him. Not only the guys with new cars at shows, but the guys who no nothing about their car because they didnt build it.

This guy here was at a car show a couple of weeks ago. Same car and color, displayed the same way. This a- hole had to park his car in-between the rows of cars that the event organizers had set up. Because he was better than everyone I guess and didn't have to play by the rules. He strutted around like he was the Queen of England in his fancy skinny leg girlie jeans. Made me wanna puke! So cut to the chase, he ends up getting a trophy for his brand new, store bought 2021 Corvette. Bottom line, this a- hole paid tons of money to take away a $10 trophy from someone more deserving just to stroke his big fat ego!

Man, the only new car around me that participates in shows for trophy's is a highly modified 2019 mustang with around 1000 horsepower. we all like the guy though because he did all the work on it and learned how to tune it with his laptop by himself.
as long as you are a good person and not an ***, I say you are welcome to compete in shows.

He would have my respect. There's a major difference in being an actual hot rodder and just writing a check.

and i bet over 75 percent of vintage muscle werent owner built

N96 Hell Yea IT'S REAL. I appreciate "REAL" cars but at this point of the game I'd rather have a clone I can beat the snot out of , modify as I see fit and NOT hurt the value. "REAL" cars are nice BUT they suck to drive most of the time. Example 4 wheel drum brakes , manual steering , bias ply tires , standard shocks

First, I feel all guys in the car culture should be accepting of each other. I've had hot rods and custom cars for 40 years, I don't car show I feel that original and restored to original are very important to our culture it allows the guys who would normally be like stamp collectors to hang out with the guys that their mothers wouldn't let them hang out with in high school because they had to go to band practice. Love each and everyone of you,,, Jim

Problem with that is, yes the engine compartment will stay nice if you don't ever drive it. same with Harleys I have a friend who has a nice 2003 road King anniversary edition, he rubs and polished it more than he rides it, I pull up on my bike its covered with garage dust and dead bugs and I say "lets go" they wont get scratched if you never ride them but whats the point? riding them is the point.

2 painted screws is a fail.
There should be 1 painted screw, and 1 un-painted screw if you want to get technical.
Two painted screws for a Lynch Rd car, as they stuck screws in the holes loose and hung the tags from the visor mounting hole on a wire during paint. The only "flaw" in mine here is that the tag has too much paint on it, they were lucky to get a mist of overspray on Lynch Rd.
