I've been trying to convert my 1964 dodge dart 270 to have an HEI distributor and I've run into an issue where I can't find a 12-volt wire to run the distributor wire to that only has 12 volts while it's starting and running they all seem to want to be at 12 volts all the time or drop down to 6 and all kinds of stuff. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what wires would work because I just have a wire going straight to the battery and I have to connect it and disconnect it when I want to drive it.

so any help/wiring diagrams would be appreciated!

Ditch the ballast resistor, and attach those 2 ballast wires together and there is your true 12V to the HEI coil. What about using a mopar electronic distributor, and firing it with an HEI 4 pin module. Then you keep the distributor as a mopar setup and use a pertronix cylindrical coil. This avoids that dreaded fat cap HEI that is a tight fit on mopar firewalls. I got my 4 pin mounting bracket from www.designed2drive.com

I filed a flat spot in the shaft for the set screw, and installed it with locktite 409 . That isnt ever going to fall out with that stuff. Ideally I could put some shrink tube over it as well if need be

I don't know if he's still offering kits or not, but @TrailBeast was offering some really nice options at one time.

No longer available on the HEI kits.
All I do now is sell brand new electronic distributors modified with the lighter advance springs from Holley and the FBO total advance limiter installed.
With some vehicle, engine and intended use info we come to an agreement on where I set things up at before shipping.
