A Body WAGONS-Ho! A body Wagon Thread

1966 Valiant Wagon.jpg

I found this one in Jacksonville FL with 37K miles. It's a complete stripper, V100, no options except AC. That in turn required the 225 and tinted glass. That's it. Blue interior, radio delete, three-on-the-tree, rubber floor. Completely original, unrestored, paint upholstery etc. Drove it home to Colorado which was a great road trip.

I bored the engine .080 over, milled the head .100, ported it and added 340 double valve springs, Clifford cam. Super six cast iron manifolds with a 273 2bbl carb. The original air cleaner was mounted using a cut down 2bbl base plate and 2.5" exhaust through a big low restriction truck muffler to be quiet. Resulted in total stock appearance under the hood unless you could spot the fatter carb and header pipe.

I sold it to a Daimler-Chrysler exec who had it shipped back to NY from CO on an empty Mercedes new car transport. It was fun dropping it off at the Mercedes dealer as the poor lot boy had no idea how to drive it. I had to move it to the indoor storage spot for them. I wonder how they got it loaded!

@JDMopar that is funny enough to be real and worthy of comment. At the same time as the Valiant was being paper chased through interstate bureaucracy, some folks in local constipation were about to explode. The stripper from FL piece is even more then I want to explain here, suffice to note it all worked out despite the implicit scandal. It's just a car after all

This one time, I facilitated a buy for a guy from Minnesota for a '63 Valiant Wagon in Sacramento California. He came out to give it a run through for the drive back and we got to talking.....turns out he did tattoos....and coincidentally put 2" tall block letter tattoo that said "Elvis" of the arse of a good friend of mine in Denver.

What are the chances?

He fixed up that wagon and slid a v8 into it.

That's exactly what my Mom owned. I beat the dog piss out of it when I took it around the block. It's a 4 door hardtop wagon.
I did a search years ago and if you could find one in decent shape, then you'd have to sell your first born and kick in another grand.
Exactly. My friend is Louisiana has 2 , both are KILLER !

Nice 63 !

Here's an interesting early Valiant wagon. I know nothing about the car or owner, I just happened to see it parked on a San Francisco street in 1980 and grabbed a picture of it.

Well I'll be doggoned! Even the color is the same, could be the same car. Any idea when the picture was taken? In Texas?

It's in an Auction that goes off soon. Near Amarillo TX.
It's a Lancer based on the taillights and hood.
Has Valiant doors.
The doors are different from what I can see.

I just blew up the original picture of the one I posted, and it definitely has Valiant tail lights. I see the Lancer taillights on your posting. The door handles are different too.

It’s gotta be the same car, different doors, lights, like 20 yrs later

Two different cars entirely. The one on the street is a post car with a very small rear window and the one in the weeds has no post so it was made into a hard top. Not to mention the different tail lights and door handles as previously said.

Same car, someone swapped out the ugly doors/posts, tail lights look the same to me

If you blow up the CA car you can see the Valiant cat eye t-lights.
Look at the wagon outline and you can see what the builders did.
