One and done.

When I bought my 33 acres first thing I bought was a pos tractor and bush hog. If you gonna have a big piece of land it’s mandatory or watch it get grown over QUICK. Even livestock can’t keep it clean, ever so often you got to mow over the fields.

For small stuff, like finger sized or less, a brush blade on a trimmer.

For bigger stuff, go big or go home. You won't regret it.

IF you just have grass that might be ok but will take forever to cut. Once you acquire property of any size it’s mandatory to get the right tools for the job or you’ll be fighting yourself forever. You have to stay ahead of the little trees and weeds that will grow fast.

There are definitely saplings there
I think one of the things I'm really fighting are chinese reeds (what ever they're called)

i came across an add on craigslist for a troybilt 21 inch self propelled lawnmower with a 160 cc honda engine

hasnt ran in 4 years but it was free, so if i can get it running i will chop the front off and see if i can brushhog with that

if i cant get it going, im gonna pull the engine, replace it with a spindle and run it off a belt of the lawnmower (that is probably better anyway)

ites been about a year and im back to working on this
i was able to pick up a snowthrower for free

so far i got it running, and am in the process or turning the gear box that runs the blades from horizontal to vertical

once that is done i will put a blade on there and try it
if that works, i will add 2 more vertical shafts, run a belt from the gear box and put blades on there

That sounds like an AWFUL lot of work. Bein's you have the riding rig, I'd picked up maybe a COUPLE of old lawnmowers and made a "rig" to push in front of the lawn tractor And maybe mount 'em so they were tilted "front high"

Yes it is, but the kids are home for the summer and so i got time to fiddle with it
So far, the only negative side effect is that I can't seem to stop humming the tune to the A team

(Ideally I would have gotten a second mower deck for my riding mower and offset it like a ditch mower
then all i would need to do is find the right belt and install a few wheels and i could even use the PTO of the lawn mower. in that case i would notch the deck so the front of the blades would be exposd and there would be no need for the gasser look)

i got a section of land that is starting to get overgrown
my lawnmower doesnt have the ground clearance to do the job so im wondering if i were to remove the rubber blades from a 2 stage walk behind snowthrower would that be strong/sharp enough to act as a brush hog?
A goat and 25 ft of cable. Seriously. We let goats keep the brush back all summer and BBQ them come winter! Everybody wins, well except the goat.

Round up ! First season, then take your time clearing it the following year.. seed it with grass seed and clover .. heck, I like the idea of a couple goat's, tie them off in an area, then move them, here i can't use them, coyotes are everywhere

Don’t know what you’re cutting, but I just knocked down this jungle with my little D130 John deere
