  • RV cam. Is that like a 3/4" cam?
  • RV cam. How many guys have cam swapped their Winnebago ?
  • RV cam. I have a Comp Cam that they state is an "RV cam" in a 360, but a "street cam" in a 318. Huh ?? Does this mean I can use an "RV cam" in my 360 motor home but not my 318 motor home ???? LOL
CAM SWAPPED !!!!! with an RV cam.... :D

I put a rv cam in my 454 powered tool truck. 268/485

So does that mean any cam you put in an RV engine is an rv cam? I’ve actually put cams in two rvs for friends. And both wanted headers also. Both gen 5 big block chevys. It was pretty popular back in the day, those things were turds. Gale Banks used to make a lot of hop up parts for RVs also, turbos, headers, ect.

It cannot be possible that any cam that is installed in a RV becomes an RV cam. And the same RV cam installed in one engine becomes a "NON-RV Cam" in another engine. The science is tough to catch, but I'm trying :D
  • I still have no idea what "RV cam" is, and what it takes to qualify as an RV cam.... LOL.

MOR' TORK' cam.

I thought they produced more low end torque? IDK.
Years back I had a neighbor, was a mechanic, He was 83 and passed a year or so later.
Good guy.

He said State troopers would bring their cruisers, and he installed RV cams and would advance them a few degrees, and were very happy with the results.
These were 440`s

Was he bsing? who knows.

They rate the same cam differently due to the 42 cube difference and the way it acts in the engines.

A RV cam as I can best put it is a cam to increase torque with zero drivability loss. This would equal (and opinions vary on that one I assure you!) 1 or 2 steps larger. The stock cam would be generally around 190/200@050 so the one step up would be 5*’s or so.
A RV cam in a 360 would or could be like a 206 or 210 @050. Some cam companies may push that a few degrees in ether direction. Let’s move it to 212 - 218 @050. The 222 can be seen as a RV in both but the 218 would not be in a 318 but still OK in a 360.

Also, chances are is the cam is cut on a 112-114 for a smooth idle in no matter what compression engine. Ramps will be easy on the valve train and lift not so much more.

“RV” stands for Real Value
Or was that Really Vaige
Maybe Runs very fast- but that would be the “RVF” version with a 3degree back slope.

Marketing. Ya got to love it! Thank you JC Whitney.

I would think if we break it down in quarters Rv would be the 1st quarter 240-260, 3/4 cam 280-300, race anything over 300 so leaves 260-280 guess hot street cam.

I would classify any cam that works from well idle-4000 ish rpm especially part throttle in your displacement/application would be RV type cam.

RV. Recreational Vehicle. Isn't a Hot Rod Mopar a Recreational Vehicle ? :poke:
 Sorry,,had to do it.

guess 3/4 cams are for 3/4 ton trucks

We have/had a resident member that worked for Crower and they actually have a cam called the “3/4 cam” in which he posted a link to a few times. The specs of the cam were huge!

Is a 3/4 cam the same as a 3/4 race cam? asking for a friend.

I assume a 3/4 race cam is just about right for 1000' tracks

And it depends what you think a "full race" engine is. Is that a top fueler? If it starts there, a 3/4 race cam/engine would be pretty serious. :poke::rofl:

Wasn’t the 3/4 race cam named for the lift? .750”

Yes. It’s an old term with no clear parameters to describe what has basically become known as a street strip cam of a fairly large duration. This is a very open term.

No. Any cam is a race cam.
Your just going to set up the car to cross the finish line stripe at or just pasted where max power rpm’s at. Be it the finish line is at 660’, 1320’ or 1,000’.
