This is what the wiring in my Dart looked like when I got it. I have installed a good harness under the dash and am ready to do the engine bay. I have 2-3 full?/partial harnesses but am not sure what the correct routing is. If anyone could take pics of where things like relays etc were located from the factory I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Jim

Nope. early A's don't look like that. This is not a close up for detail but you can see the simplicity.

I wish I had a photo before I put the engine back in. You need to strip it to the bulkhead and start over with a want ad for a engine compartment harness

What do you mean "early A's don't look like that"? It is a '65 Dart. Who knows what was done to if by the last owner. That is why I would like pictures showing where things are mounted on the firewall etc. Thanks

Yes, I stripped it all out and painted inside the bay. I have one or two good harnesses, just looking for routing. WV64Signet posted pics that will help a lot.

This is on a 64 Valiant FYI. The wiring for the right side lights runs over the front on the radiator support. Mine has the pigtails for electronic ignition.. that will get fixed to the firewall once I place the engine, so the ballast and boxes will dictate. As TMM stated, should be pretty clean, but over the years a lot of crazy happens.

Get the appropriate TSM so you'll have the proper wiring diagrams.

This is a clean early a body original wiring. you can pause the video to look at the routing. I don't have any still photos where I'm at...but you can see different angles from the video. Good luck with the project!

He means exactly what he's saying. The early A wiring is super simple. What you have in your early A is a rats nest and not original in any way shape or form. it would be best to strip al of that out and start over

Im about to pull the entire harness from my 65. The engine/headlight harness is already out. I’d sell everything front to back once it’s all pulled.

He has harnesses.

Three-four years ago, I replaced my hacked and spliced 300,000 mile original engine compartment wiring harness with a new M&H from Year One. Cost $145 and change. But they are over $300 now (gasp), so that is probably not what you want. It is there, though.

Thanks. That will help a lot! That is one beautiful Barracuda. My Barracuda was a '68.

Yes, of course that isn't original... as I said I have a good harness, just wondering what the routing was and how stuff is mounted. Sorry for the confusion.

I have seen those. The b/w version in the shop manual is good enough, easy to follow. Thanks
I can tell you from experience that the laminated version is easier to read and MUCH more durable. But I used and abused and left greasy fingerprints on the diagrams in shop manuals for years, so you certainly can also. Cheers!

One advantage of the factory diagram is you really learn the circuits as you trace, colorize and/or redraw them.

@dibbons has some nice photos in threads I've used for reference. I'm sure there's more.
Here's a few in these threads
None of my factory gauges work 65 dart gt
