So i finally got the supercharger kit & it came with a blow-thru carb. Once i collect all the other parts i need like fuel pump, regulator & timing retard knob i will take some pics of the assembly & post them. The kit is the same one that Summit racing sells. The carb is a quick fuel 750 cfm blow-thru. They also recommend a 1-2 colder spark plug. Ill have to do some research on them. Right now i have champions 12ryc plugs. The kit seams kindve easy. The only thing im not to sure about is the oil return line. They want you to punch a hole in the oil pan with a punch & then screw the fitting for the line into that. If wouldnt be such a big pain i would drop the pan & weld a bung on it. I also have to get a carb hat, it doent come with kit. Ill keep you all posted

Any reason you couldn't plumb the return line to a valve cover and let it drain back to the pan from there?

just a thought, drop it into the valve cover?

or

make a special drain plug with a return tube in it?

dont know if either is a good idea

The valve cover idea would be a good idea but i thinking they want you to put it in the pan because it would be gravity fed. Where the return comes off is a bit lower than the valve covers. I think lol ill have to look at it again.

If you're running an electric fuel pump, you could tap a block off plate and drain it into the fuel pump mount.
Heck, now that I think about it, the factory used a hollow bolt on the fuel pump for the return line on the police package oil coolers- so you could probably do that even if you're still running a mechanical fuel pump.

You want the oil drain as low as possible but above the oil level. And the drain line as large as possible and as straight as possible. Unless the supercharger is on the roof do not use the valve cover.

On all of my turbo junk I drill the oil pan just below the pan rail and install a bulkhead fitting. I usually cut the nut in half and after it’s tightened, trim off any excess thread past the nut and tack weld the nut to the fitting.

Another thought, the procharger, extreme velocity, and CSU carb hats are the best, some of the cheaper ones can kill a bunch of power. I use the new Holley hat (just bought a second one for another engine) and have been happy with it, although I’ve not seen any testing done on them yet.

The directions to the hole on the side of the pan towards the front just below the rail.

For those of you that have a supercharger do you have a boost timing module w/ a retard knob

One with an MSD 6btm, one on an infinity efi with coil on plug, one on a stock GM ecu tuned with hp tuners, and one I’m currently building will get a new MSD digital 6AL2 programmable.

The kit i got is the one from Summit Racing I also got a quick fuel 750 blo-thru carb in the same deal. The only question i have is the ignition system. As of right now i have a MSD 6al box, distributor & wires. I was told i need to add a MSD BTM (boost timing master ) w/ a retard knob. When it comes to the fuel system i will up grade to a red or blue holley fuel pump w/ a regulator. Also go with a 1-2 colder spark plug. I am a champion plug user.

Forget using Champion plugs. Go buy NGK plugs and you have much better quality and reliability.

Tom
My dad & i have used Champions for years & never had a problem. In fact mu dad had Champions in his 06 charger & he switched to NGKs & his gas mileage went down.

If you’re going to run boost you need to get very good at reading plugs for the initial tuning. Especially with a blow through carburetor. I don’t care whose carb the kit comes with, you will be tuning it. And NGKs are the easiest to read, it has something to do with the coating on them.

The kit doesnt come with a carb. The blo-thru quick fuel carb is what they recommend & thats what the guy bought that i bought it from.

A friend of mine had a '71 Duster 340 and put a Paxton on it. He had all kinds of trouble. First, the hollow brass floats were crushed (4-5 psi boost), then the "hat" carb cover leaked everywhere, then it would run lean on boost. Over and over. It took him 2 months to get all the little stuff fixed and my '70 Duster 340 with cam, headers, and holley750 still outran him and was more reliable. Blow through is a real pain. You would be better off with a suck through turbo, plus it would get better mileage.
