Hey Johnny. You have a 350 MoPar? That is one super rare one year only engine. WOW!

The secondary's are mechanical in design. When you floor the pedal, make sure the cable is cranking the butterflies fully open.

The secondary air door is spring loaded. You may need to loosen up the spring for less pressure on keeping it closed.

Also if you remove fast idle screw/counter weight piece the throttle linkage may not engage the secondary throttle blades. If you aren't using the fast idle screw leave it on but just back it off some. Look on the driver's side of the carb and make sure the lever thingy is activating the secondary blades.

You also probably want very light spring tension on the air door for your race car.

its a 350 buick and i do use a M1 intake on it. nobody makes a single plane intake for buicks, thats why the M1 is there. the way the M1 fits on the sbb is almost like a tunnel ram. works great. i gain another 1000 rpm. we can now shift at 7500 rpm.

i did try the spring adjustment, but it seems off. cable is where?

thanks
john

Throttle cable...conects the gas pedal to the carb. Or is it you have rods? Ethier way, when you press down on the gas pedal, make sure the carb opens up all the way.

I thought TA Performance had a single plane intake for the small block Buick engines. I just looked and your right. That's a bummer man. I'd love to see a picture of the M-1 on top of the SBB.

On the driver side of the secondary shaft you'll see two pieces that when enough throttle pressure is applied to make primaries about 2/3 open the one piece contacts the other and the secondaries open. Sorry I don't know the name of the pieces. That fast idle counterweight holds the the one piece down unless the fast idle screw is in enough to engage the steps. Then the secondaires won't open. Sometimes it's necessary to slightly bend the pieces make sure they engage every time.

Post a pic of the drivers side of the carb if you can. There are also several websites that have pictures plus rebuilding & tuning tips for the TQ. Just do a search on Google.

JOHNNY 9 BALL!!!!!!!!

There is only one Buick dude local to me that has a dad that makes the intakes...

Guess who Johnny?

Did you send the check to Carl yet?? Please say Dad aint driving it...

I've been in a ford. I got all itchy...
You know I have some yellow paint left over if you need it :D
If you need a hand, call me. You have my cell number...

Now that's funny John. I thought you WERE Jr. My mistake. I'll get in touch with Jr as I dont know where your house is... It may not be this weekend if that's ok.
For a quick thing to look at... if the choke linkage on the pass side of the carb is not wired fully open (I'm assuming you are not using the choke) the secondaries will not open. They are interlocked with the linkage on the driver's side of the carb MY340 mentioned... I dont know what it's called either...lol. But make sure the choke is pulled all the way off and wire it there and try opening the throttle by hand standing on the driver's side. you will see the interlock and how the link bar pulls the secondary throttle shaft to open them... There is a lot to tuning a Thermoquad John. Maybe more so for your car. Is this that Nova looking thing (Skylark in that year?) or the Skyhawk (the yellow car..)?

I Soooo needs some pictures of this Moper. I soooo need pictures!
Make sure you have a camrea.
:worthles:

Rumble, I had some beers with Jr last night, who also is a Buick guy. He drives a very nice 67 Buick Skylark. (least i think it's a Skylark...lol) 350, 4sp, posi with some improvements. The "yellow car" is the race car, and there's another brown later Skylark and I think they all have Buick 350s in them. Sr is the one with too much time on his hands destroying Mopar intakes for himself :D.

LOL, destroying MoPar intakes. HEY! What ever works... works and making stuff that was never intended for your engine fit and work, well, GOD bless for being a thinking man and a crafter for getting it to work.

My hats off to him. He's my kind of guy. BUT I'd still love to see a few snap shots!

You forgot to bring the camrea didn't you!!!!!

No, I still don't knwo where Sr lives... I'm working on it...lol.

i modify sbm intakes to fit the 350 buick. thank you mopar. it works very well. like i said before 7500 rpm now is not a problem. it has seen 10k and didnt blow. it was in a tube chassis skyhawk. jr didnt like the entry/exit, so now its in a regular body.
dave, bring your camera and earmuffs.:-D

Its called a "dog" - please don't ask me why.

From the dictionary -

a. any of various mechanical devices, as for gripping or holding something.
b. a projection on a moving part for moving steadily or for tripping another part with which it engages.

The other option os to either tie or braise the two linkages together, as in the pic.

i did try that. but it didnt help. havent tried on the butterfly spring yet. its been tough trying to get a carb to work right on this intake on launch. once past 3500 rpm its an animal.

Wow. I didnt realize the dictionaries knew that much about Buicks :D

What year Thermoquad John? Any electric solenoids or anything on the top casting of the body?

Give it time Dave - some intellectually challenged semi-literate "crackpot" will claim the dictionary is wrong .....:read2:
