i say, work a little OT, sell something, wait and save the money for headers of some sort. Schumacher fit nice. i just don't see going through all the trouble to put a big block in it and sticking manifolds on it.
motor mounts is what QA1 recommends.
headers depend on your build. Schumacher tri-y are nice, pro parts by tti are kick *** but i think they are for a raised block.
carb depends on the build too.
depending on the quality of the converter it could be fine and cruise like a stock converter.
all that stuff just for a convertible "cruiser? **** i'd be selling that motor and building a stockish 440 and probably still have money left over and less headaches in just a cruiser.
what issues are you having installing pro partd headers? i installed a few sets back in the day and they went in easily. even did a set with power steering. plugs were a ***** but they fit.
yup. they can handle just fine with a big block.. now with 50 year old wore out slant six bars up fron it sucked. i ended up going with a 383 bar up front and it made all the difference in the world. these days i'd end up with a 1" plus bar but they weren't available back then.
pretty sure tti makes those these days. are you sure the engine is in th eproper position? over the years i've installed a few sets of proparts (well before tti started making them). mine weren't step headers like that. they were the same size primary all the way. driver side was always...
transdapt ones are cheap knockoffs of the schmachers. should be a bolt in deal.
just make sure they are 318 mounts. 340/360 mounts are different but still bolt in.
slant to V8 are bolt in.. not sure what year you are looking for..

???? a day to get the motor out? really? i could get a big block out just as fast as a small block. maybe faster because the bell housing bolts sre so much easier to get to on tbe big block. i used pro parts headers on my demon and didn't have to put any dings in them at all. the 64...
ity sure isn't difficult. no welding involved when i did my 72. all it tok was a couple little cits to clear the oil pump..

.
easy swap using conversion mounts. headers are expensive though. but good small block headers are expensive too. you'll need a big block trans too. can always sell that 340 for some good money to fund the 440 build. there is nothing like a big block abody. they are so much fun and...
