    FBO plate over advancing

...rear. Timing done with an Innova 3568 dial back light. After timing test, the engine wants 18* initial, and 34* mechanical. Bought a FBO plate and spring kit, assembled the distributor with both light springs from kit and the plate set on the 16* tabs. dropped the dizzy in, warmed...

Set "total" timing on a stock 318 two-barrel where?

Arriving a little late to the show. I was able to get 25 degrees of mechanical advance with the FBO plate by filing carefully the 0 degree slots which I would never have used anyway. Pretty much the same as you would do after welding the slots on the cam. My 2 cents.

    FBO plate over advancing

Well, I just installed and FBO plate in my dizzy with the intent to limit it to 10* of mechanical advance on my 340/416. I went with one light spring and one medium, based on threads I searched here. It's bedtime now but I'll fire it up tomorrow and set/check the timing curve & play with the...

    Electronic ignition upgrade.

I believe I have what I’m doing figured out. I’ll be getting fbo module and coil. Then I’ll either buy the plate and spring kit to setup my distributor or buy the kit with a new Pertronix distributor. Does anyone know if it better to get that Pertronix distributor or stay with the mopar and...

    Distributor Rebuild Question

...it referred to as both. In any case my underlying question is still the same. Does the cam come off with the t-bar from the shaft or is the top part of the shaft (above the collar) integral with them? If so, what is the best way to remove it from the distributor so I can install the FBO plate?

    Electronic ignition upgrade.

Just a word of advice about the limiter plate. Watch that it does not cause the advance mechanism to stick. Some people have reported that.

    Timing

Gentleman. My 360 smog block, alum head, 204/214 cam, stock converter, 69 dart likes 20 initial and 38 total. I'm using today an fbo plate at the 18 slot and changing the heavy spring for the light one in the kit. I have slight detonation at hard throttle. Should I switch to the 16 slot or jump...

    Timing

In upper rpms the mechanical advance is probably maxed out, so any further spring changes will likely make zero difference. Try the 16 position of your advance plate. 38 total seems a bit too much anyway. Or, just pull the base timing back a couple of degrees. That will bring your total down as...

    Distributor Rebuild Question

If you press on the small diameter internal part of the main shaft the cam and advance assembly should come off.

    Distributor Rebuild Question

If you use the FBO plate with a correct 340 dual point for the purpose of increasing the initial timing, then you can, and should, bend the secondary spring perch out. The secondary spring loop should contact at approximately the same rpm as it does now. How it works is explained in another...

    FBO plate over advancing

can someone verify these numbers are correct? Either my old caliper is off, the fbo plate or the chart.

    Distributor changes

Correction: I looked more carefully, the limiter slots in the FBO plate in fact do line up with the governor slots at the end closer to the center shaft, I was mistaken.

    Hard starts after running

...to make this thread about me. That being said, I agree that a new fuel filter with a bypass can only help things. I'm going to grab one next trip into town. Carb already has an insulated spacer. And I don't plan on using the fbo plate for anything more than testing before I weld the...

    Distributor Rebuild Question

...have this 1969 dual point distributor from a 1969 Dart Swinger 340 pn 2875783 (see pics). I am recurving the distributor and installing an FBO plate, however I am not sure how the reluctor and timing plate come out of the distributor. I have the clip out and have tried the two screwdriver...

    408 ignition curver advice

...lol I filed them to achieve only 5 at the distributor which is 10 at the crank and it worked out really good. I said cheaped out, but the FBO plate doesn't go down that far, so I really had no choice. Slant sixes don't like much more than 30-32 total and mine likes about 20-22 initial without...

    273 copper head gaskets SCE

...! after getting the 273 up and running again as I mentioned in a earlier post that I noticed the timing was at 13" initial . it has the fbo plate in a mopar electronic distributor ... so I set it according to what fbo says with the plate set at 14* and 20* initial for a total of 34*...

    FBO lockout plate

How’s it going guys, I recently purchased a FBO lockout for my distributor. I installed the plate along with new springs included with the kit, and timing is all in at 34*. When I take the car for a ride everything is fine, all of a sudden it pings like crazy, stuck at like 30*. I pulled it and...

    FBO plate over advancing

...initial setting of 16* you placed it at and work your way back on the plate until you get the actual 16* you need. I have never used the FBO plate, But I did 3D print my own version using the same chart posted in this thread, and it is very accurate. This issue is the very reason I started...

    FBO plate over advancing

Well, I fired mine up with the new FBO limiter plater plate set at the lowest level, 10* of crank advance and... it produced 16* with no vacuum advance. I had the idle set at 24* and it shot up to 40*. There you have it. I'd say it doesn't do what it says it will do, with any kind of accuracy...

'66 Valiant Running Hotter than Expected

And this is a 360, correct? That's not a lot for a carburetor. If it's running lean that could certainly do it.

'66 Valiant Running Hotter than Expected

About 9:1 (maybe a little less), have a FBO plate so 18 initial and 30 all in and about 52-54 with the vacuum. Edelbrock 1405? Oregon Cams... basically what I use for the slants, aimed at low end torque low duration moderate lift. Dynamic compression about 180.

Me personally, I'd stay with the Mopar distributer. This is the one I bought from Rick Ehrenberg on Ebay. Works great , no issues, excellent to do business with, fast shipping. My distributer cap broke in shipping, Rick replaced it free of charge. Mopar Electronic Ignition Distributor...

    FBO plate over advancing

I would just weld up the plate a bit as you know you don't need much. At the end of the day I personally don't think there will be much noticeable difference in a few degrees of initial timing as long as the all in is right. It will be much better than it was and with lighter springs it will...

    FBO plate over advancing

...I wanted 16* at the crank, so roughly half the slot. The picture below has the 16* slots under the tbar. The inside of both pieces are flush, the fbo plate should restrict the travel by more than it does. my micrometer needs a new battery, so I wasn't able to get slot readings last night

    FBO plate over advancing

This is exactly what I decided last night. Found what advance slot the engine likes. This weekend, I'm going to weld and file the the Tbar to match and toss the plate in the glove box. Probably not necessary, but it will ease my mind.
