I Chose the 383 Big Block

FWIW, I didn’t take anything offensive. We are good! NO worries no issues.

I Chose the 383 Big Block

If you had read my reply, I don’t think you’d be writing what you did. As to directly reply to your post, I agree. For clarification purposes only. I have had a low deck B-400 in a ‘71 Duster w/a 727 & 4.88 gears. The car was gutted and a pair of basic race buckets installed. SS springs, 6...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

No worries It’s always great to go big and make power easier. He’s is going bigger. But this is always the case on the forum. If you don’t go big, it turns into a bashing through many posts re stating it. A few even dog pile on it. When does it end? If you put a 440 in a car, then next quip is...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

Uh-huuuu, I did mention that. The big block weight savings is pretty good IMO.

I Chose the 383 Big Block

Yes to a bigger valve. It’s just the OEM head ports do not flow as well as one would think. The aftermarket solved that. Porting your own iron heads can be a great cost savings and produce excellent flow. The 906/452, etc… very good heads to port. 300 & plus cfm available if it’s done right. Of...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

The big blocks extra weight disappears pretty darn quickly when you add the aluminum part you find and would do on a small block. If memory serves…. The big block becomes lighter. Check out “MoPar Joe” & “318willrun” on YouTube for his video on this. I have run both series engines n the same...

Transmission fluid is also very good. A little in each cylinder.

The Elephant ears are really good and stiff keeping the engine where it needs to be. Look into Manciniracing.com and see if they have the swap mounts. Another header is made by TTI. They also can supply an entire exhaust system for there own headers for your car n 2-1/2 or 3 inch tube size...

That in itself is an attractive perk.

    Aftermarket block street strokers.

At a 4.250 stroke, I think plenty of power can be made for most purposes.

    Crane CCH-312-2-NC

With 3.55’s. It’ll be sluggish off the line and have what seems like a slow climbing tachometer. It’ll feel like a slow motion jump that just keeps on going up. You’ll wait a while for a gear change BUT will notice that it happens much later on the MPH read out. Your top end will seem like...

SV = Super Victor. I’d say, LMAO, YEA!!! The M1 is what it is and made back then.

    Starting a BB Duster project

Hey Andy, I just wanna say thanks a whole bunch for detailing that car here as well as the other places I have seen it pictured and talked about which I thought was way cool. Showing the build here really was awesome. A big huge THANKS! To you for all of that time and effort. Rob

Tunnel ram or no tunnel ram...

11-1 might be technically low for the cam but I wouldn’t give a crap since it’ll run on pump gas and like race fuel at the track a bit. I have indeed noticed the runner lengths and have measured them on most of my intakes. Single plane only. MP-W2 on the shelf w/some markings. Plenum depth as...

    383 power upgrade help

Do ether or…. Run the stock head with a valve spring swap Or Grab a set of ether Stealth or Edelbrock heads and run them. Check your own head by filling the ports with alcohol and see if the fluid level goes down in and past the chamber. If it leaks, machinist. If the don’t leak, run’em.

That’s true generally speaking with a slight fitting advantage to the low deck. I did like my 400 in my ‘71 Duster. Lots-O-fun!

    383 power upgrade help

Whooooooooaaaaaaa You need to look at some pictures because the Stealth head looks very much so like a stock head and the Edelbrock is very obvious it is not.

    383 power upgrade help

    Humm, that’s weird because 2.19 + 1.76 = 3.95. 4.320 - 3.950 = .370 4.250 - 3.950 = .300 Not enough room for a 383 bore? Makes me wonder where the valve are sitting.

    383 power upgrade help

Thanks for the video link because I don’t keep in my head what other people do. Famous or not. I have my own crap I can’t keep up with! I thought I seen TF make a mention of a minimum bore size. The lack of a mention of a certain cylinder head casting number doesn’t mean it won’t work...

    383 power upgrade help

Yep! HP is a little low. Just add headers, change the intake (yes I know he has a rpm already) add a 750 carb and cam accordingly. It’s wake up time for that mill.

    383 power upgrade help

With the OD ratio and 3.55’s rolling on 28’ tires, do you know what rpm that translates into @ 70 & 80 mph? Do not angle mill the heads! Just mill the deck flat. @PRH , the below, can you comment on the Stealth heads as cast vs the 440 source CNC ported versions vs your take on what can be...

    383 power upgrade help

@Joey N When you said you have flat top pistons, the stock engines came with flat top pistons a lot and performance pistons are also flat top often but the difference is the performance pistons are often taller for more compression. They also have valve reliefs. What are you thinking power...
