Slant manual 3 speed change to a 273?

I am thinking about buying two 1968 Darts and swapping the engines between them. One has a Slant 6 with the column shift 3 speed manual trans. and has a bad engine. The other is a 273 V8 automatic with a badly rusted body. Will the bell housing from the manual 3 speed slant bolt up to the 273? I...

My squrrily idea, just do sway bars?

Thanks for your experienced opinions. It helps alot. It is a strange 1968 Dart. I is a base grade 4 door slant with a trailer tow package of HD suspension, HD cooling, and HD 10 inch brakes with a 7 1/4 and a 3.23 rear. And it has a option of HD front seat springs and upgrade to foam seat...

My squrrily idea, just do sway bars?

So my /6 1968 Dart has the fac HD suspension option. I really like the very soft ride. But the turns sure do lean even with that small fac front sway bar. Is is possible to just add the large helwig sway bar and still keep my soft ride? Or am I doomed to also stiffen up the rest of the suspension?

Should the Ball Joint socket fit loose?

Happy Holiday All ! During Christmas I will be renewing all my front suspension. The strange thing is, the new upper ball joint I got from NAPA is 1.8 inches across flat to flat, but two sockets I have for the A body are 1.9 plus. This makes the socket fit very loose on the ball joint and I...

Fender Tag diff code is ?

Many thanks for the information. I guess I was hoping it was like the tag on a 1968 that gives the diff information. I found the car at the Pick Your Part in Wilmington, CA. It appears to have been one of the Stimulus program and had the green paint sprayed on the engine to show it had been...

why cant enamel paint over enamel?

I have two cars both with great condition factory acrylic enamel paint. Both have had body work on the LR quarter repainted, Both had the paint turn flat after 5 years. Very close inspection the paint has a crazed fine cracked look, just like old laquar does. I just happened to read that...

Wheelbase doesn't match, 25.9" tire hits on front right, 70 duster

Why bother with all the details and expense? I had new 15 inch wheels and BF Goodrich TA's put on my 1968 Dart. I found that the very front bottom edge of the fender rubbed on the tire on turns. It was as simple as loosening one bolt on the fender reinforcement rod from where it bolts to...

What are the symptoms of worn rockers?

Would the experts have experience of what the symptoms of a worn rocker arm bushing would be on the Slant 6? Lets say a worn bushing in the arm, or wear of the rocker shaft? Would it make noise all the time or just when hot or only for a few seconds when starting until oil pressure reaches...

    Aspen wagon /6 w 4speed value?

I came across a mid seventies Aspen wagon with a slant 6 and was suprised to see a long 4 speed shift lever out of the trans hump. It appears to be factory. Does it have any value? I couldn't decide if I wanted to go back and get the trans and pedals from the wrecking yard, since I really...

    Sportsman Van/Dart 8 3/4 same measure?

Hello to all the Mopar guys and gals that answer the questions so well all the time. I came across a 1968 Dodge Sportsman Van with the 8 3/4 in it. Funny, but the width of it looks like it could be an exact match to the Dart 8 3/4. I did not have a tape measure with me at the time. Would anyone...

    are 8 3/4 junk now?

Thank you! I thought it was odd they were going to the crusher. I will just have to add some to my collection of Mo Parts at home. Maybe everyone in this area already has alot of them.

    are 8 3/4 junk now?

I keep seeing 8 3/4's in Furys and Belveder's going to the crusher at the wrecking yards. Have they fallen out of favor among the Mopar crowd? If an A body one goes for up to 2 thousand, why not buy the wider ones and get them cut down if they are supposed to be so valuable. These are the diffs...

Help setting valves on a 225

I have two slants that give me fits with the valve adjustment. I have used the method of the firing order divided for decades successfuly on other engines, but these! Whew. One car runs great until hot, then a cylinder or two start to slowly drop out as it warms up. I think the valves are...

1968 Dart time capsule 13,000 mile for sale

See Ebay ad for more detailed photos. Item 190390483342. I have another Dart project to work on and need to make room for it. Otherwise I would keep it. I thought about the price, what would it cost for pit free chrome, rust free body parts, and perfect interior. Then added some to keep the...

Seller says the bell housing mark is 111-8?

Thank you to the experts. I thought that all the bellhousings had very large numbers cast into them such as 904, 999,998,727. The trans in question looks like a 904, but the 111 on the bell made me worry that it could be for who knows, a forklift, gokart, or a trash truck. But you have...

Seller says the bell housing mark is 111-8?

Now I am really confused. The new automatic trans is on Ebay. I asked the Seller for the markings on the trans bell housing, and marks along the oil pan, and the length of the tail shaft housing. So the reply is the large numbers cast into the bell housing are 111-8. I kind of think it may...

new guy wants to know what is a 999

Would you let me know what vehicles would have had the 999 automatic transmission in them? While I was looking at 904's I thought I saw one with 999 on the bell housing in big numbers, but had no idea of what it was. Hmmmm Thanks, Glen

many thanks for the great site

I joined a while ago and found the site to be very helpful and informative. Many thanks to the seasoned members for all their advice. Last year I bought my first 1968 Dart. I enjoyed it so much I bought two more. I got the first in Oklahoma. It only had 11,000 original miles on it. It even...

    7 1/4 is there a crush collar?

Hi, I need to replace the diff pinion seal, and I looked in the repair manual and the mopar parts book, but I dont see a "crush collar/sleeve". Does it use one? The application is a 1968 Dart, 225 slant with a tow package and 3.23 rear. Thank you

    1968 Dart Slant block differences

Hi, new here, very nice site. I have 3 1968 Darts, all slant 6 with automatic. One is a 170, and two are 225. I just noticed that one of the 225's has the driver side freeze plugs in line with the rib off the back of the water pump. My other 225 has the freeze plugs up higher, kind of under...
