    Compression leaking to valvetrain

Hey guys, sorry for disapearing!! Hell of a hard few months! So, I took the head that was off the car to the machine shop, and they showed me it had acctually "burned" in 2 spots, like furrystump mentioned. They asked me about the gasket, said it was crap and advised to pull the other head...

    Compression leaking to valvetrain

Hi! My 318 was completelly rebuilt a little over 1400 miles ago. Heads were completelly done (stock specs), compression ratio around 9:1 (Sealed Power 526ap pistons and Mr. GAskets 1121g head gaskets). One day it started making some noise on the drivers side valve train, I took the cover off...

    Input shaft "play"

Got a little lost on the language barrier here. So, if I understood, it is "ok" to move...to the sides, but not in/out? Is that it? Didn't understand that part about the tail moving. It should move the same way I move the input shaft?

    Input shaft "play"

This is a brazilian 4 speed, stock to our Mopars down here. I was cleaning it yesterday and noticed this "play" at the input shaft. Is it supposed to be there? The american 4 speeds, do they have any bit of play? I'm measuring it tonight, got so bummed yesterday I didn't even think of it, but...

    318 pistons

Thanks a lot txstang84!!! Understood the quench subject, and loved your input on pushrods. First time building an engine, all I could think on fixing the rocker geometry was adjustable rockers...more than one way to skin a cat I guess!

    318 pistons

I just love this site! Thank you ALL a LOT for the inputs! I had no idea this was such a "delicate" matter... I didn't even know about half the terms and calculations I heard here for the first time. I was just reading about "quench height", wich was another thing I had never heard off, and...

    318 pistons

txstang84 , tanks!! No, I do not intend to be na 11 sec terror! lol Just want a nice and "fair" 318 to go on roadtrips to meetings and ocasionally burn some rubber. You calculated the EXACT same CR than the guys at Summits "help desk" (they just responded), I must be using their calculator...

    318 pistons

Hi! I'm rebuilding my 318 down here in Brazil, on a budget. Our 318's are a bit diferent from yours, for exemple, the stock compression ratio was around 7,5:1 (pistons were as low as 0.149" from the deck). Our gas today has around 15% to 22% ethanol, so a lot more tolerant to compression...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Hey Paul! Thanks once again! So, if I can't sink intake valves...spring seats should be ground on the springs that seat "below" recomended installed height, is that it? Thats the right way to do it? I'm already looking forward to doing that job down here..."not". But first, I found out...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Aren't rotator valves the ones with 2 groove locks? Mine are 4 groove...and the website I got them from stated non rotator valves.

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Lets try again: Considering installed spring height, is 0.020" bellow or above a considerable variantion? Whats the right height for valve stem tips, on a stock valvetrain (rockers, pushrods...)? I tried to get in touch with the shop today, "the boss" is out for the rest of the week.

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Hei poison, come on! If they did THAT kind of work to start with, what do you think I would get if I just threw my heads back at them? At most, ground stem tips... I DO agree with you I'm taking too long to solve this (as I dowith anything I put my hands on), but I need to be sure there IS a...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to get back! My tools took too long to get here. So, I remeasured everything, and I'm not very happy. This is going to be a long one, sorry for that. Purple: lowest installed spring (per head) Orange: lowest valve stem tip (per head) Green: highest...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

As my heads are out of the engine and unpainted, is that a problem? Brake fluid will corrode the metal and or maybe seals as well? D*mn! I got brake fluid very cheap here, thats why I used it. Lets see what I find first, but I think I'll run 69 Cuda 440's tip, alcohol and red dye, as thats...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Appearently those are exactly the pieces I've got here! 0.025" variation from intake to exaust, that seems to be what I have on my heads. Getting anxious to to remeasure everything and be done with this headache. I´ve beem taking a look at spring shims, and there seems to be a "pattern" on...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Guys, first of all, THANK YOU ALL for your time and attention! I was getting really frustraded down here... So, to start, I'd like to say that I got another "measurement instrument", a newer and more precise one, and I'm going to check it all again, as I found out my current tool might be off...

    318 Heads: bad valve job?

Hi guys. I´ve just picked my heads back from the machine shop, went checking it and found some "odd" stuff. First: putting a straight edge on the top of the stems, all exaust valve tips are higher than intakes. The difference is around 0,039". As I got the heads assembled, I measured the...
