I opted for a Wilwood MC/booster for this very reason. It's a bit pricey at just under $450 but it bolted right in and it looks and works FANTASTIC!

Take a look at the push rod where it connects to the pedal. It should be as close to level as possible. If the rod is mounted at an angle it decreases the pedal resistance. You might need to drill a new mounting hole in the pedal arm.

I made mine out of a piece of aluminum sign and used JB weld to fasten 4 threaded studs to to the back side that fit in the corners of the control opening. Painted it black to match the dash core.
