    duster sporadic starting/not charging?

So i couldn't really find a thread that matched my problems. 73 Duster, new ballast resistor new voltage regulator, new (2 years ago stater relay), new ignition switch and I just had o'reilly bench test my alternator and it is fine. So here are the symptoms 1st symptom: Car normally starts...

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

The plus side is Firestone doesn't have specs on my car or any car before 1985 so they asked me what I wanted and before I did my research I told them 0,0,0 but now I know and i'll take it back to at least get the camber the same. So it -1 degree is kinda max before some tire wear then I don't...

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

Well I meant that meaning the rest of the alignment went well and had no issue. I can't or rather won't at this point, I paid $200 for lifetime alignments and any Firestone. That's why I was thinking of taking it to the other Firestone shop in town and see if they get any better luck with it.

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

Okay good to know, like I said all my suspension pieces are redone and new bushings and the thing tracks straight and handles fine. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" but I'm not sure if this is broke or not, I just dug out the final alignment details from Firestone. (All in degrees obviously.)...

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

Okay thanks. For BFG radial TAs I was going to use 2-3 degrees positive caster, -.5 degrees camber and 1/8th inch toe in. Are there any objections to those specs?

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

Hmm valid point, I guess undoing the upper control arm would be easier than the strut rod. last time to get the upper bushings out I used a vice, right size socket, and a propane torch and they popped right out

steering column shaft settles and drags on wheel

That's probably the best idea, i'll take off the wheel and see how far down it settles and just grind down the steering back plate. Thanks guys!

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

Now I like the idea of the strut rods...changing the upper bushings was solo not fun. One more thing I should probably confess too, when I redid the front end I actually didn't change the strut rod bushings...they seemed fine. Can putting in brand new bushings help me out? if so what brand?

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

So to get the oversize adjustment I would need to replace the upper bushings again? There is no other way? I was gonna take it to a different firestone for grins and have them do it (lifetime alignments and on a Sunday so who cares) just to see if a different guy at a different time and manage...

steering column shaft settles and drags on wheel

I have a power steering 318 73 duster with a Grant steering wheel. The problem I am having is the steering wheel (and obviously the shaft it's bolted to) will move in and out slightly. It will stop when you try to pull on it and leaves like 1/8th in between steering wheel back plate and column...

are oversize cam bolts for caster adjustment availible?

I have a 73 Duster and I just put on brand new Cragars with BFG's. Got a lifetime alignment at Firestone and they got it all aligned minus the passenger side camber. They showed me under the car where they were bottomed out on the lobe but it was still cambered top side in .9 degrees so the...

    Duster quits on curb idle

Doesn't hurt to try both at this point. Ill try as much advance as I get and reset my mixture. So you think I will have to mess with my distributer to make sure it doesn't over advance at high rpms? How will I know if I am out of those bounds? it wont run?

    Duster quits on curb idle

So by the advice of a close hot rod friend I replaced the power valve. He said if it had ruptured then it would constantly suck in more fuel instead of holding vacuum and flood the engine, seemed like it would work but sadly it didn't. Eventually I will mess with the timing but at this point...

Neutral safety switch dies when warm

Okay, I suspect it is probably at the plug, I have really nice and tucked away exhaust that it runs by. I put head shield around it but since it only has issues when the car is hot Ill play around with it thanks!

    Duster quits on curb idle

thanks guys, got some advice from some friends to also advance the timing. It's a 318 with a dual plane high rise intake, holley 650, headers, big 2.02 intake valves, and a lumpy cam so i know I already have low vacuum and i'm still checkin around for leaks. The timing is around 12 right now I...

    Duster quits on curb idle

Here is one of the plugs, mildly black around the ring but other than that I see no big issue with them, maybe you do?

Neutral safety switch dies when warm

So I am having problems with my Duster dying due to fuel issues (another whole topic on here) but the bigger problem is when I can't get it started at a light because the neutral safety switch wont "engage" after going from park to neutral and wiggling the shifter around (on my 727) I can...

    Duster quits on curb idle

well it's been sitting overnight now so I can go check. They were new on the rebuild 5000 miles ago but its definitely worth a shot

    Duster quits on curb idle

you are having the same issue? oh and my last sentence doesn't make a lot of sense. I meant to say i changed the valve and seat and it seemed to fix it for a little bit but the car will still die just like always. When it does I hop out and check my side screw levels and they are perfect...

    Duster quits on curb idle

Hey guys so I'm having some fuel issues, at least that's what it seams like by the way it dies. Definitely not electrical. So the car will run fine in park or neutral but in drive after driving a little while it would die if you weren't moving and in gear. It drives just fine if you were...

what is the best overdrive transmission for a Duster

Man there is no easy solution. I like the gear vendors Idea if it were 1200 or less but 2800 is a bit steep for me. Found a 1999 dodge on CL and it has the overdrive transmission, the guy wants $650 for it but I also don't want to spend a week installing it. I think I am going to just keep my...

what is the best overdrive transmission for a Duster

wow that's great to know! however I would still need to find pedals and such... hypothetically what is involved with staying automatic with the Chevy 200R4? and what is it out of? and another question why wouldn't any other 833 work for my car? I mean didn't 833 4 speeds come in Dusters? why...

what is the best overdrive transmission for a Duster

Sorry forgot to mention its a 727 automatic. I am mainly searching around on Craigslist, there are a lot of wrecked dodge trucks and such that say the transmission is good but I don't know if what they have would fit my car. Like what did the 200r4/a500 normally go in? If I find a good deal on...

what is the best overdrive transmission for a Duster

So I have a 73 Duster with a built 318 and a 8 ¾ 3.55 posi rear end. I cruise at 3000 at 60mph and the SOB gets 9.6mpg when I am really nice to it. haha so I need an overdrive. besides 5k for a Tremec what is the cheapest and best route to go without making new supports and totally reworking the...

    Duster distributer short? wont start

The ECU box wasnt totally grounded, I have checked before and there was bare metal, and I hooked a small ground lead to my brake booster which was providing ample ground for all the other tests but when I grounded it to the neg battery terminal it fired right up. I Think I solved my year long...
