Power Steering Pump Pulley not lining up

What to do? Engine is 68 340 with Mopar Performance alum. water pump. The ps pump from the 63 doesn't fit (brackets issue) and the one off an 86 318 fits but the pulley is about 1/16 to 1/8 inch off (sticks out further than water pump pulley.) New pump? Different brackets?

New Engine Woes and a question

So if ya have been following the recent issues I've been having with the break-in of the new motor, ya know it hasn't been going well. Overheating has been a big problem. Yes, we nearly killed the engine. We had a timing issue (which has been corrected since we did get the thing to run long...

New Engine Still Overheating During Break-in

Suggestions anyone?? Got thru only 10 minutes of engine break in last week and thought the thermostat was bad. Coolant spewed everywhere out the blowout. This weekend cleaned everything up, hooked up temp gauge, refilled coolant, checked everything for leaks and fired it up without a...

Did we just kill the brand new engine?

Finally got to the point where we were ready to fire up the new 340. Primed engine according to instructions (spinning/cranking, etc.), hooked up the tach & oil pressure gauge. All fluids filled, gas good, poured about 1/4 gas into new carb and turned the key...

    Whaddaya Think It's All Worth?

So I bought a 73 Dart Sport a few years back (see orange car in my profile) with the intention of doing a resto-mod with a 340. I hated the orange and so stripped everything down to bare metal. Body work was getting more and more complicated as it really needed new quarters, floor pans, etc...

    Upper/Lower Radiator Hoses

Anyone able to tell me what size (for fittings) I'll need for the 340? It is stock and has correct replacement radiator. I tired measuring what came off and it looks like it is just under 2 inches. I'd likve to use the flex steel from Summit but looks like the fittings are too small...

Installing front and rear windshield glass

How difficult is it to do? Can it be done at home vs. taking the car somewhere? I have the glass, will need to buy the weatherstrip. What say ye? Car is 73 Dart Sport.

    Animal Owners Read This

I received this email this morning from the ASPCA and thought I'd pass along the info. Based on a couple of recent threads, many of you have animals and may agree with this proposed legislation. Dear Animal Advocates, Introduced by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, H.R. 3501—known as the...

    Flea Bay

So I'm just a tad bummed tonight. Had CudasRule's 67 Fastback for sale on Ebay for full 7 day listing and got ZERO bids. Over 40 people had it on their watch list and all we got were people wanting to trade for crap. Which was somewhat annoying considering it was well stated in the ad we...

    Need help locating a part

I've tried all the "usual" places, i.e. JEGS, Paddock, JC Whitney, but cannot locate the in-line transmission filter for my 727. Did an internet search by part number (2400124) and one company came up; Tri Component in the Bronx. They unfortunately do not deal with individuals. I got the...

Couple of questions about an engine swap

My son is working on my 73 Dart Sport. I took the engine out a while ago and sold it in anticipation of putting a 340 in it but changed my mind. He bought a 318 to put in it a few days ago and is having issues with fit. The 318 he bought was pulled from an 82 Dodge truck. The first issue he...

Wish me luck and good weather this weekend

I'm shooting the paint/clear on the Dodge. Working with new materials, new gun, and candy effect. I'm feelin' just a wee bit nervous.

    New pics of the 340

So while I'm still waiting on parts to arrive and the transmission to be done, I'm just droolin' over this engine. Can't wait to see it in the car!

Just Passing Along Some Info on Painting

I stopped in the local paint store yesterday for some primer/surfacer and learned something I had not considered. For those of you who are doing paint work yourselves and are using the standard half-mask (charcoal type) the guy said to store that mask in a sealed bag. Don't just do what I do...

How long before new/rebuilt engine needs primed again?

Picked up the 340 a couple weeks ago and the engine shop primed it right before I picked it up. I intended to put it in that weekend; however, due to some transmission issues and other stuff it didn't get done. How long can it sit on the engine stand in the garage before I need to reprime it...

Big Thank You to A-Bodies Member Rumblefish360!

So I try not to overreact when things don't go well with my restoration/modifications; however, I am a chick and it really goes against the grain to not have a meltdown sometimes. Of course I do ask for these "issues" to come up because I'm not building "normal" stuff. Yesterday I had...

Ok Tranny Guys - Need advice on rebuild

The 340 is ready to put in the Dodge but since I just spent so much $$ on the engine, thought I should rebuild/upgrade the transmission as well. Also, I don't know any history of the car so I'm thinking good idea to "freshen it up." The tranmission is a 904, nothing special about it; right...

I've been busy while I've been away from A-Bodies

Hey Guys & Gals, Haven't been on here in a while and thought I'd post some pics of the 73 Dart Sport project as it has progressed. Still working hard at putting everything back together. Door locks and handles & all the weatherstripping (roof rails, etc.) are next. Not looking forward to the...

    Paint Prep revisited

Hey All, I've been prepping smaller body parts for paint and have run into a couple of different opinions on what I should be doing so I wanted to run them by you experienced folks. We're down to bare metal on all body parts, so assume we are beginning there. I've been using AutoBody...

    Help identifying body piece

Hey Guys/Gals, I need some help with a part that is rotten in my Dart Sport. I'm trying to find metal replacements but don't know what to call it so the search isn't going well. To make matters worse, I've been on a web site within the past couple of months that have what I'm looking for...

    Body Work Expertise Needed

Okay you body guys & gals, I'm in need of some advice on the body work, primer & paint for my Dart. I started this project taking the car down to bare metal, then cleaning with degreaser/body parts cleaner, then applying just rattle can primer (not sealer) to the car. That didn't work out at...

    Rust Converter/Encapsulator

Has anyone ever used One Step Rust Killer by Interstate Products? It is advertised as a rust converter that can be applied by brush, roller, or sprayed. I'm considering using it in a sprayer as a converter/primer. It seems to be similar to products such as POR 15 by Eastwood but about half...

    MoparGirl's 73 Dart Sport

In the beginning.... There was a hide and seek paint job. "They" hid the rust/bondo and I'm now seeking it. These are a few pics of the long, continuous process of stripping all the old paint, primer, filler, glazing etc. off the Dart. This is as far as we got this past weekend, which was...

Body Parts Swapping with Different Years

Can someone point me in the right direction for finding out what body parts will swap among same vehicle but different year? I have a 73 Dart Sport that needs various stuff (deck lid, fenders, possibly other stuff.) There's a Mopar junkyard around the corner that has some of the parts I need...

    Hensley Performance (Knoxville)

Hi All, Just wondering if any of you have had experience working with Hensley Performance in Knoxville and would you recommend them? I already know they'll be pricey, but I want the work done right and there's so much I cannot do myself. :dontknow: Thanks, Pam

    Eleven Minutes

Received this in my in-box today and had to share... A cop was patrolling late at night in a well-known spot. He sees a couple in a car, with the interior light brightly glowing. The cop carefully approaches the car to get a closer look. Then he sees a young man behind the wheel...

Please help me id this cylinder head

Hey All, I'm posting pictures of the cylinder head numbers and bottom of head below. I'm trying to determine if this is a 340 head. The block is definitely 340. According to Larry Shepard's Hot Rodding Small Block Mopar book, this is a 915 head, however as you can see in one of the shots...

    Wrenching on the new 340

Well guys and gals I picked up a 340 yesterday from someone selling locally including trans and rear end and began disassembly today. Wow what a messy project! Anyway, I'm happy as a clam and sufficiently covered in 30+ year old grease and grime. I'll post pics of the new (old) engine soon so...
