    Rack and pinion conversion

Is it possible to convert a 1958 Dodge truck with a manual steering box to a rack and pinion? I am unsure how to change the direction of the steering shaft without the box. Thanks in advance for any input.

    Posi Conversion

That makes sense. I have heard "posi" and "suregrip" but never knew the difference. Now that I know that, I can probably find one online a little easier. Ha! Thanks for the information.

    Posi Conversion

I have a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger with a 318 and a 904 transmission. It still has whatever rear end came stock with a six cylinder and I'd like to upgrade it. I would like to put a bigger rear end in it and while I'm at it I might as well upgrade to a posi. How would I go about doing...

    No Third Gear

I have a 904 behind a 318. All I did to the transmission is replace filter and fluid before I put it in my car hoping it was OK. I have no third gear and reverse is very rough. Fluid is topped off and clean. It shifts fine into second, but it feels like it goes into neutral in third gear...

    Kickdown Adjustment Help

My 904 kicks down when I'm going through town. It shifts into second and then down shifts and the rpm comes way up. I have adjusted the kickdown linkage from all of the way forward to all the way back and driven around the block...No matter what I do It still kicks down. How soon should...

    Brake Light Switch Wiring

I'm just about ready to get my 72 Dart on the road, but I have no brake lights. My brake light switch behind the pedal is unhooked and I have no idea where to hook it up or which wires go where and the master wiring diagrams I am finding are not helping my situation. There are two...

    Sputtering and popping issues

I have a 63 Dart with a 225 slant six. Car was on non op since 2007. Did a tune up and oil change, took carb apart and cleaned up and it ran like a champ. All of a sudden it developed a sputtering problem and pops out the carb. Car wont accelerate and dies when stopping at an intersection...

    Charging Issues...Please Help!

Ok. Thanks for the quick replies. I checked the brushes with an ohm meter and sure enough one was grounded. I took it out and it doesn't appear to be damaged. The part inside the alternator that the brush rides against (I don't know what it is called) is grounded out. Is this reason for...

    Gotta get that stance!

Update! Apparently the Cragars are 14's rather than 15's...Even Better! I got BF Goodrich Radial T/A 245/60 for the back and I am ordering 215/60 for the front. I have an old 185/70 (roughly the same sidewall height as 215/60) already on the cragar. I bolted it on and it looks good...

Sorry... This is in a 1972 Dart with a 318.

    Charging Issues...Please Help!

Ok...Well here's the skinny...I got a brand new alternator, but I ended up breaking one of the brushes. I got a new set of brushes for it and when I fired it up again, one of the field wires nearly melted off along with the new brush. I diagnosed that as my impatience when I noticed I put...

    Header Clearance Issue

I got my driveshaft cut to fit (it was too long anyway) so that isn't an issue. All I did to the transmission mount was pull it down and put it back and it relieved any tension that it had.

    Gotta get that stance!

Thank you all for the input. Now I have some things to think about. I'll post some pictures later when I get my tires. Thanks again.

    Gotta get that stance!

I'm finally ready to get my tires!! I have a set of 15" Cragars for my 72 Dart. I want to give it the right stance with the front a little lower. It still has the stock 195/60r14s all around and I dropped the front down on the bumpers. My thoughts are to put a taller tire in the front and...

    Header Clearance Issue

Ok! I figured it out! The motor was sitting square so I moved the motor mount brackets to the front of the flanges on the block to move the entire engine back which gave me clearance on the idler arm. There was still a clearance issue on the steering box so I put a spacer between the k-member...

    Header Clearance Issue

I just got Patriot full length specific fit headers(H8206-1) for my 318 72 Dart. I converted the car from power to manual steering. The bottom tube on the right side hits the top of the idler arm. Is this typical of patriot headers or is there a specific manual steering idler arm that i need? I...

    Low Oil Pressure

I took the manifold off and found that I had missed an oil galley plug. Pressure was bleeding off into the valley. I plugged it and the pressure hasn't dropped below 60 since. Problem solved.

Time For a New Ignition Switch?

New developments. Just checked ballast resistor again and i am getting up to 5.5ohms! Pulled a spark plug and grounded it, turned the engine over and i get an occasional spark. Would a new resistor solve this issue?

Time For a New Ignition Switch?

Sometimes it fires once after I move the key to run position, but it doesn't run which makes me think it is the ignition switch. I am using a mopar electronic ignition control unit with appropriate wiring harness. I checked voltage between coil(+) and ground with key in "run" position and i...

Time For a New Ignition Switch?

I broke in my 318 a couple days ago. After I took the heads off to replace the inner springs and got it all back together, I have no ignition. I converted the points ignition to electronic and I checked all of the wiring and everything checks out OK. The key will let me crank the starter but...

    Low Oil Pressure

Thanks for the quick responses. I haven't checked if the pressure moves with the rpm. Been afraid to fire it up again. With the break in oil I was getting around 40 when it first fired at 2000-2500.

    Low Oil Pressure

I have a 318 (I believe it's a 71) that I just rebuilt. I primed the oil pump with a cordless drill and I got 60psi cold. I broke in the new cam yesterday and noticed that I had 20psi oil pressure(two different gauges). I diagnosed this as the thin 10-30W break in oil. I drained the oil, changed...

Best Headers for 318 in a 72 Dart?

I found Flowtech Headers #33100FLT.They seem to be a more universal mopar header and I don't want to beat them up to make them fit. Has anybody used these?

Manual Box with Large Sector Shaft

Thanks for the information. With this in mind, would it be possible to use this box in my '72 Dart with a 318 (given the correct pitman arm with the bolt to the center link pointing up)? Would there be clearance issues? Clocking issues?

Manual Box with Large Sector Shaft

I found a manual steering box, but I don't know what car it is out of or what year it is. It has the large sector shaft. Which manual steering boxes had the larger sector shaft? Thanks
