    Missing kickdown linkage...

Yes, the Lokar cable does the same job as the stock linkage. Other than having to work around the headers, mine went in pretty painlessly. It works fine. I have only taken it for one short test drive, but it did kick down when I hammered on it at speed.

    Compression Check (Compression Ratio?)

135/14.7 = ~9.18. 9.18:1 is your DYNAMIC compression ratio. Dynamic compression is static compression minus lost pressure due to the intake valve closing after BDC (into the compression stroke). Your static compression ratio really depends on how radical your camshaft is. Probably somewhere...

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

Thanks for the heads up on the backspace. It came with 225/70R14s in the rear, not sure how wide the rim is. I have about 1/2" clearance to the spring and about 1.5" clearance to the fender, so I have more room to grow outboard than inboard. Problem is, decent looking 15x8s with 4" back space...

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

Next thing up was the carburetor. It came with a sad old aftermarket Carter AFB with a manual choke. Dig that custom vacuum plug on the back! After sitting for 13 years, I didn't have high hopes for it. I tore it apart for a rebuild. The fuel bowls were coated with varnish, and all the...

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

Yep. Agreed. The original was cracked and fiberglassed and cracked again. Nothing else is original, so why should the coolant recovery tank be original? Ten bucks at the local O'Reilly got me this:

Next up, the brakes. As you can see, the front right brake hose was toast. The master cylinder was empty, and there was evidence that it had been leaking so I just re-did everything. Of course, at least one line will fail to cooperate and require brake line surgery... The rest of that...

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

PO apparently didn't understand the function of a transmission oil cooler. He literally had the trans cooler lines looped together with a piece of rubber hose. The new radiator has proper provisions for a trans cooler, so put it back to the way it should be.

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

First thing I tackled was the radiator. Thanks to you guys, I found out that this inexpensive one from Advance Auto would work. It's not "correct", but nothing about the car is correct. $150 shipped is pretty good for a radiator these days. I had to drill a couple holes in the radiator...

    73 Dart Swinger Resto-mod

Hi FABO So, here is my 1973 Dart Swinger. I bought it off a local Craigslist ad. It had been sitting for 13 years, but the PO had it listed as a "running and driving" car. Well, it sorta ran when he poured gas down the carb, and it moved all of 50 feet before it stalled out and he...

    Missing kickdown linkage...

Good catch. I downloaded the installation instructions and sure enough it says that you have to buy the bracket too. Added that to my order.

    Missing kickdown linkage...

And this is exactly why I asked. I figured it was a bad idea. So, I guess I am ordering this: Lokar KD-2727HT: Chrysler TF-727 Stainless Steel Kickdown Cable Kit Brushed Finish Aluminum Fittings and Ferrule | JEGS Is there anything else I am likely to need to install the cable? Thanks!

    Missing kickdown linkage...

I'm working on getting my '73 Dart Swinger on the road. I bought it after it had been sitting for ~13 years (according to the PO). I did all the stuff that needed to be done and got it running. Now I am chasing the odd problems I am finding. The car has a built 340 and a 727 transmission...

How much can I expect to spend on a 8 3/4" rear end?

The 8 1/4" rear end in my '73 Dart is an open unit with highway gears. Rather than screwing around with it, I would just like to upgrade to a 8 3/4" rear end. Any advice on what the going rate is for a decent rear end for an A body? Just looking at how much I need to budget for the upgrade...

Which radiator for my '73 Dart?

The radiator on O'Reilly's website was basically the same one that I posted above. It's good to know that you installed it with success, I didn't want to be the guinea pig! I went ahead and ordered the same radiator, I think they are all made by Spectra. It should be here in a week or so...

Which radiator for my '73 Dart?

I have a '73 Dart Swinger. It was originally a 318/auto/non-AC car. My radiator is shot. It's one of the first things I need to get sorted out so I can get the car fired up and running again. The radiator that keeps coming up in my searches is this: ecat The radiator in the car is NOT this...

    Greetings from the Motor City

Hi all. I recently picked up a 1973 Dart Swinger. I've been lurking since then, and figured it was time to introduce myself and start asking some questions. The car has been sitting for 13 years, so it has some issues. The brakes don't work, the master cylinder was dry when I got it home. I...
