8.25 Centre and Sure Grip issues

I clearanced my housing like the picture showed, and it STILL wouldn't fit. I finally gave up and installed the open carrier so I could get my car back on the road. There is something different about them, for sure, although I still have mine. I don't think machining a spacer is going to work...

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

Personally, I'm going to try to keep my Mopar powered by Mopar components, but to each his own. There are a lot of nice Mopars out there with gm trans in them. I just feel like mine needs to stay in the family line. At any rate.. if you do some research on the A500, you'll find some companies...

    Migraines and cluster headaches

my stepsister used to have bad migraines that would make her sick. The only way for her to get rid of them was to lay down and sleep for awhile, sometimes a few hours.. She wound up having neck surgery to clear out the drain passages from her skull, I guess. They said it wasn't draining right...

8 1/4" rear discs off Jeep

Here's a link to some good info that will get you started. I'm sure you could contact some of the people on there and find out the details. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=5000586&Main=4997089

I know a few of them... General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard 67 Shelby Mustang GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds 69 or was it 70 Mustang Mach 1 from the original Gone in 60 seconds. the Challenger from Vanishing Point The A-Team Van Batmobile Starsky and Hutch Torino Kitt 007's Aston...

    3.23 or 3.55?

I just went from 2.45s to 3.55s on my dart, and I don't think its enough gear. I'm running 205 60 14 all around. I think I could go 3.73 comfortably, but since I'm eventually going with an overdrive, I'll probably spring for 3.91s on the 8.75 rear I'm going to build sometime. I don't think...

    Gears done - FINALLY!

well ya'll, between stuff happening, work picking back up to full time, and a 5 - 6 month old little girl, I haven't been able to work on the gears in my car much, but I finally got em finished tonight. Took er for a test drive and no whining, no funny noises or smells, so looks like I did...

    Mopar OEM EFI

as far as I can tell, you can use the magnum v6 or v8 harnesses interchangeably, with the exception of adding an additional wires to the v6 harness for the v8. The computers are supposed to hook to any of the aforementioned harnesses. The only problem you may have is getting the trans working...

    Hedman headers

I had to lift the car up 24" like the directions said, and get the engine up about 3 - 4 inches, which is easier said than done.. BTW, if you install these, take both monifolds or headers off, and put the driver's side back on first, then the pass - makes it much easier.

    Hedman headers

Well, it depends on whether you have manual or power steering. If power, only use the hedmans if you want them flat spotted again. I just recently put these on my car (PN 78050) and the first minor bump I hit, I flat spotted one tube, not too bad, but its there. Also, there's very little...

    489 vs. 741

Where is a good place to buy a yoke like that? I just picked up a 741 with 2.94 open gears out of a 66 Belvedere.. needs some tlc, and a new yoke.. also had to hammer the brake drums off it, lol. will definitely need new wheel studs.

Sad pics (NOT for the faint hearted)

That shop is only maybe thirty minutes from me, but I almost never go up around there. Even without reading the article, I know that fire was fairly recent, because I remember one of my coworkers telling me about a superbird in a shop up there. Some goof probably tried to pull an insurance job...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

Well my car is already not original, so I'm not too worried about that. I didn't even think there was an 8.75 to be had around here. I've been looking for over a year, I've even asked the junkyard where I found it.. I guess I just didn't ask the right question. I don't know if I'm going to have...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

I think the numbers Pana listed for his were serial numbers. The part number should be on housing of the carrier, running from just under the ring gear to the first tapered shoulder. Mine says 0915 195. If there's another number under there, I can't see it. I might check again.. Thing is Pana...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

SO.. here's the skinny... My Suregrip is wrong. Pana.Mopar is having the same problem. I'd like to figure out WHY it won't work, to be able to explain it to someone else. If the Sg units we both bought were actually for a Dodge Dakota 8.25, then why won't they work in our rearends? My Axles...

Charger IRS in a 69 Dart!!...

I was thinking of this same swap a few weeks ago when I happened across a 300-C IRS on ebay, which I think sold for like, $200. I'm thinking its a Diamler/Mercedes based rear unit, but I could be wrong.

8.25 Centre and Sure Grip issues

Pana, I'm having the exact same problem. I have decided that the SG unit is wrong. Its possible there was a difference in the carrier sizes, but it has nothing to do with 2.45s. Every unit I've seen offered for the dak was 2.56 and up. I've never heard of a dakota with 2.45 gears in it. The...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

Well, I've only owned one set of drilled and slotted rotors - with ceramic pads - all 4 wheels, and you could DEFINITELY feel the difference in braking power. I had an 03 Trailblazer with the 4.2 I6 - which is a stout engine, for what it is.. anyway, after the D&S rotors and ceramic pads, you...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

well that's our point, by the time we "look up north" to buy our parts, either we have to find an AD, or we have to travel. If you travel or have parts shipped, the parts wind up costing more $$$. AT any rate, I don't think its a bad deal to go from a worn out 2.45 open carrier rearend, to an...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

"8-1/4 parts can be had easily/cheap in salvage yards because of all the Vans/Dakotas/cars they were used in. There is a lot of sure grip units lying around in salvage yards and nice ones sell on eBay for $100.00 regulary with new/NOS ones only fetching ~$150.00. not too mention check your local...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

IF you can even find an 8.75, and then IF its big bolt pattern. I'm not even sure you can get them BBP, and since they're so hard to find, don't care, lol. If I ever have to have one, I'll spend the jack to buy all new stuff and won't worry about it. Or just go Dana 60. BTW, I'll only be about...

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

SO, I'm going to try to add some more pinion shim. I'm going to go from .027 to about .040 and see where that is, and adjust from there. Also, what benefit is there in using a solid spacer instead of a crush sleeve? I have to order my pinion shims online, and the place also offers solid...

I'll try to get one tomorrow, I took those with my cell, cause its all I had handy. My garage is a few blocks away from my house.

Pattern, I marked the grease line so you can tell, the marks COVER the grease line. I think maybe I need more pinion shim?

    8.25 setup, any ideas?

I had posted this in another thread, but decided to start a new one. I used a Suregrip out of a Dakota instead of an older A-body. The obvious difference is the carrier bearing size, but the Dakota has about 1/8 inch more adjustment side to side than an abody. Here are some pics, to see where...

    3.55 SG Wanted

    TCI Transmissions: What your opinion

From my studying on Dodge transmissions, if ya'll are going to have your trans redone, or buy a performance trans, you should absolutely, positively, completely, utterly - get my drift? - make sure that it has a bolt in "sprag" or Overrunning clutch. Its a simple upgrade that will really add to...
