extreme wheel alignment problem -- need help

Hi folks. Problem now solved with my Duster's alignment. The lower control arm bushing bolts had been loosened, then the car put back on the ground, then the bolts retightened. Apparently the bushings and all were fine and recently replaced but then not installed right. There was tension on...

extreme wheel alignment problem -- need help

Thanks for all the info gang. I just yesterday searched all over London for 2 good used tires to put on the Duster so I can drive it to the alignment shop. P225/70's for 14 inch rims are hard to find. But I guess they were made by Firestone up to the 80's for some trucks? Anyway I got 2 real...

extreme wheel alignment problem -- need help

Hi folks. I've been driving my new to me 70 Duster for about 1500 miles this summer between the raindrops. I got the slant 6 running reasonably well. When I first got the car the alignment was terrible, it went all over the place and the steering wheel didn't return to center. Got it...

    Fuel lines-vapor lock

I'm having the same problem. I was wondering why all these slant 6's likely ran well in the olden days of leaded gas, my dad's 62 Valiant station wagon had no problems ever with it even on the hottest days, and it was routed very close to the engine. But it's the unleaded gas of 2009. The...

Will a radiator overflow bottle automatically siphon back in when cold?

Looks like I have everything then but maybe the right cap. I should have taken the rad cap from the junker car I got the recovery bottle from!!! Is it specifically called a recovery cap or just one with a lower PSI rating. Thanks for he excellent info gang. The Big E

Will a radiator overflow bottle automatically siphon back in when cold?

Hello. I just put a junkyard radiator overflow bottle out of a 76 Duster onto my 70 Duster slant 6. I did it mainly to catch any coolant that might overflow on a really hot day and keep my driveway in better shape. Any ideas gang if it also will work like the newer cooling systems and...

70 Duster on the road in London Ontario

Thanks...well picked out by a previous owner at some point. I liked his choice on the Twister hood paint as well. It's not a 340 car so putting '340 Wedge' on the hood would be strange but maybe '225 Slant'!!!!! LOL The Big E

70 Duster on the road in London Ontario

The show was at London City Chrysler on Dundas street east in London on May 23rd. About 50 mopars appeared. I think it was heavily attended by WOMO, Dave Wheeler was there in his AAR Cuda. The mystery box has my old front seatbelts in it. Not complete but may come in handy for someone...

Rough idle when hot, fine for most other times

I think the fuel getting too hot is the issue as advised. I rerouted the fuel line basically like factory and it ran better than ever!! When we get into the really hot weather though I may try some fuel line insulation to keep it cooler still and maybe some type of float bowl heat shield...

Rough idle when hot, fine for most other times

yeah, the choke is opening completely when warm. The car came with no choke at all so I found one and put it on. Works well. That's an interesting point about the fuel overheating...I think that the fuel line from the pump outlet should run down low at fuel pump height and then come around...

Rough idle when hot, fine for most other times

Hi gang. I'm having trouble with my 225 slant 6 in my 70 Duster. It is a completely stock engine with the Holley 1920 carb on it. It starts instantly when hot or cold, picks up speed well and idles well when cold while the choke is on. But when it gets warmed up, the idle surges then...

    wheel cylinder rebuild question

Thanks for the info. An adapter would have worked I guess but it would have moved where the metal line from the back of the cylinder attaches to the flex line through the hole in the support bracket. I thought that this would not have been a good move?? I was able to rebuild it, it worked and...

    FABO @ Moparfest!!!

hi Giles. I'm in for Moparfest(Sunday only though). The Duster goes for its safety on Monday morning April 27th. Failed on the first try but should be on the road by Monday afternoon. Main thing it failed on were both lower ball joints and a bad RF wheel cylinder. I'll post some pics after...

    wheel cylinder rebuild question

Hello. My 70 DUster with 9 inch drum brakes failed its safety partially due to a leaking RF wheel cylinder. Is it pretty straight forward and quick to rebuild it with a kit? Any tricks to it? thanks for any info. The Big E PS. I was in a hurry to get the Duster on the road so I...

London and area Mopar only shows

Hi gang. My 70 Duster is almost safetied...failed last week on both lower ball joints and the RF wheel cylinder. Should be on the road just after Easter. I'm into hard core Mopar only show action now. Does anyone know of any Chysler dealerships having shows in the London area this...

    Leaking oil pump gasket

Hello. I discovered the cause of my oil leak. There is a plate on the bottom of my oil pump on my slant 6 that leaks when the engine runs. It has 5 bolts, 7/16 inch heads on the bolts and looks like a cover of some type with likely a gasket of some type in there to keep the oil in. It is a...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

As I read in another thread, the outer rails have a thicker piece of steel coming down from the side so that the seats are not just bolted to the floorpan alone. For the bench seat that my Duster came with only the 2 rails are used near the doors. But there is a predrilled hole in the extra...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

I just did some Duster work. I was amazed to see that the driver's bucket seat edge is way more in towards the middle of the car. Not sure why, both my new buckets from a 74 Dart were put in using the 2 outer holes that are already there in the reinforcing bracket for both outside rails. I...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

Thanks for the info men. RDJ method looks very neat and clean once done. And I think I can picture what Redfish is talking about. A piece of steel that bolts one end into the original anchor hole and the other end holds the end of the seatbelt with your own nut and bolt, extending it into...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

Are these seatbelts then from an aftermarket place and not any 70's A-body? When I bought my seatbelts I saw Dan201's setup in his 74-75 Dart and that was where the anchor was...but I can't recall where the lapbelt retractor sat??? But it definitely was not interfering with the front seat...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

Thanks for the info and pics. Interesting stuff. Your problem is just like mine, seats hitting the belt retractor. I also need to move them back about the same distance. I can see in your pics that a similar system was used in the factory...a backing plate with threads behind the rocker...

    What was your first car?

Kinda a 62 Valiant station wagon. My dad took it to my uncle's farm for me to drive around the farm and learn to drive when I was about 10. The first car on the road was a 4 door 73 Satellite. Also my dad's. My first personal car was a 68 Charger when i got my first 'real' job at 24...

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

I think with these seatbelts that were made for a later model A-body(likely 74-75) they would have used the more rear bolt spots to keep the retractor clear of the front seats. I take it that an old school Mopar man with some welding knowledge could weld in a new threaded plate for me??? Big E

Any extra seatbelt mounting holes on a 70 Duster

Hi gang. Good news and bad news with the newer A-body seatbelts I`m installing into my 70 Duster: Good news is that the shoulder belt retractor and shoulder belt mount in the rear door panel and roof respectively are fine. It did take some customizing of how the retractor went into the door...
