413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Yeah, it's got a steel crank. Hope it can be used, if not, I have another, but it's 20under.... Prob just order new one. My 318 in the boat now is RH rotation with a auto crank. It doesn't leak too bad, but the RH crank I had was broken. I do wonder if I should pitch the oil cooler, todays oils...

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Thanks steve, I have some old truck 383s I'll tear apart. Moe, I'm going from RH to LH rotation to get away from that backwards spinning crap. I hope I can use that steel crank, so I don't have to buy one.

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Will a set off a 383 work? I don't have my b-rb book anymore. I know they fit, but do the 383 heads have a dif chamber volume. Or is it like sb, and it's just a casting #

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Crisp = efficiency. I'm sure I could find a set of old heads up here. I like crisp. That's why my 390 has 302 heads.

No seawater til the exhaust. Even the manifolds are closed cooling.

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

I like the 413 idea because of that small bore thick block. :-) y'all think i'd be better off with iron heads w small valves for a low rpm range?

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Thank you challenger. I figured a set of custom pistons were in order. So that's doable. Who would know what compression I would need to run 87, with a 160f thermostat. I was thinking 9-1 at first. As far as the cam, I was wanting to go short duration higher lift solid tappet. With a narrow lcl...

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

Alright, so, it's RB time. My 30' long boat is tired of having a single 318 in it, and so am I. (SLOW) I just picked up na industrial, with the big heads, diagonal exhaust bolts, etc. BEcause I have been driving my *** off and not thinking about MOPARS in so long, I need you guys to double check...

    Stuff I do while Truckin

Well, fix it! You don't want to go further than fairbanks right now. Muuuddy! Got freightliner?

    Forged stroker pistons - recommendations?

I had hyper pistons once. Got 7 good ones, look like new, 3.94 bore. Now I have a sleeve and ross. My ross were custom order. Hard to get a 318 bore piston, 9.5-1, for 302 heads. Lol. Wiseco has always made great pistons.

    4 barrel 318

I got two a year ago. Nobody buys them anymore.. Because old tech must be bad tech, even tho i'll put my money on a small port offey vs any dual plane EB, weiand DP manifold. Doesn't hurt to call.

    4 barrel 318

I bet summit has a small port offenhauser dual port. Old tech, but great mpg vs power. Put a 500 edelbrock on it, a new chain, and enjoy.

    Forged stroker pistons - recommendations?

If you cruise on a cloudy day with a 160f thermostat, you'll have the same problem with any piston-bore.

    413 motorhome/truck/industrial motor "chat"

Turbo was an option, just not from Chrysler. Just like the 427 industriAl ford turbo. Both show up in busses. Man, old thread lol

    Forged stroker pistons - recommendations?

My 390 has Ross pistons, 50,000 miles of WOT and they don't make noise. Sounds like yours were too loose to start with. It would have to be real bad to scuff tho. What temp thermostat do you run.

can we please talk width and length ?????????????????

I don't like the idea of turning down a cast crank........... But, I guess done right....... Why not get stroker crank?

I can drill and tap the rocker feed holes, right? No special block off?

    Stroking a 318 engine

Stroker is right, my pistons were 90 each. I went with stock floater 318 rods, because they are the lightest/strongest Mopar made, IMO. I think a 360 will make the power the 390 will, but it will not be *POWER* likethe 390. Hell, my 390 is a small port motor, I'll post a vid one day of a dry...

Gotcha...... I think I'm going to dig out the sioux........ That sounds like too much work for a kids first truck!

    Magnum heads onto LA 318

If I had a set of good magnumheads, and a LA 318 with a couple burned valves............. What would it take to put them together.

    340-360 vs 408-414

No, they didn't. They were fine for a 273, and 318, IF they had've built a 4bbl 318, and put effort into making them build power, other than marine, the 327 would've been outpowered, with the 318 using the small port heads..(factory speaking).. You have to remember, we had 361's, and 383's in...

    340-360 vs 408-414

Pulease....... GM heads are better? Flow? So what, the geometry is horrible, the valve angle is horrible, the combustion chamber is horrible. GM SB heads are the ultimate example as to why you CAN'T race a flow bench!

    Stroking a 318 engine

Wait, did someone say stroke it and use longer rods? How in the hell is that going to compensate anything?
  27. dodgetkboy78

    Stroking a 318 engine

I meant longer an d typed shorter....... i fogot about nothing my cylinder bores, it was no biggie. Shorter rods just takes away from the beauty of a MOPAR engine..... Use stock length rods!

    Should I bore a 74 318 to 340 ci or just go with a 360?

Longer stroke would be easier to drift, a more even, predictable power band.........
