    Now you are talking about a poly 318? They haven't made those since 1966, then in 1967 they started making the 273's, then 318's and 340's. The polys were a completely different block than the later s/b v-8's.

    Up to 1969 the timing marks were on the passenger side of the motor, in 1970 they moved them to the driver side. That may be your problem with the wrong balancer that you used. I just read that you verified TDC was correct...disregard this post.

    x2, I agree with mopardude, also if you have an HP motor be sure and run a 3 or 4 core radiator if you do any driving in town or get caught in traffic every once in a while! You'll be glad you did.

    You will never get it to "run right" on pump gas with that high of compression! Either get some race fuel or av gas or lower the compression.

    I bought this car in Laramie Wyoming about 23 years ago. The original 273 V-8 is in it. It was a "3 on the tree", I have a 904 in it now. The car has about 92k actual miles and the motor has 88k miles. I had a 340 in it for about 20 years that is why the difference between motor and body...

    Correct..... So there is no way to disable it like you can with the electrical lockup ones.

    Some 904's had lockup convertors from '73-'79....also the tailshaft had a bigger OD seal than a std 904. One way to tell them apart.

    Also, the re-pops I saw when they first came out were made of ABS plastic, the originals are fiberglass.
