what does your early abody look like?

66340Sedan; your cutouts for the fenderwell headers are about the cleanest I've seen! Any tiops on how you did it so tight? Are those TTIs?

    Early A Control Arms

Wow; the engine bay sure did! It took me forever using brake cleaner to get it off. I guess some previous owner did the fenderwells ;who knows how long ago? Whew; lucked out! But the bottom of the car has lots!

Wow! What an inspiring thread! Here's a before and current pic of my 65'. I hope my car can be inspiring to somebody some day!

    Early A Control Arms

OK; all cleaned up and primered. Next I need to paint the eventual body color (Silver) on the engine bay and inner fenderwells before putting the front end back together. I've heard that the /6 stock T bars are OK for drag racing; but I will be using my car for occasional street cruising as...

    Early A Control Arms

I ended up getting the right pair through Dick at FirmFeel (The black ones posted above) I had the machine shop at NAPA replace them with rubber bushings. They told me that it was a real struggle to get the old ones out. So now I'm almost ready for assembly after stripping; grinding, and...

    Nice 66 Dart on e-Bay

I kinda like it! But not for 8K

    Early A Control Arms

Well it seems as though par for the course is gonna prevail and this also will not be a slam dunk. The pivot shafts I have on my control arms are for "poly" bushings, but used with rubber bushings. I guess one of the previous owners might have thought he upgraded the wobbly suspension. Anyway...

    Early A Control Arms

Nope; I've been wrapping up school this week and battling the flu. It looks like one of the pins is bent a little. Do you know if anyone carries replacement pins?

315x60x15's on my 64 Dart GT

Good job! I also put a 30 inch tire on my 65'. The only difference was that I had to use full tubs because of some bad rust issues on the wheel house.

    Early A Control Arms

I had some Krylon chrome paint sittin on the shelf after cleaning them up; so I shot em just to keep the rust away. I knew they were gonna be layin around for a few months before I got my front end back together. As it turned out it was "years"

    Early A Control Arms

Is there a "how to" article somewhere that shows step by step how to do this? Oh and Cliff; I JUST got through cleaning my shop when taking this pic! It was really a mess before! :) Heh heh!

    Early A Control Arms

I have a question about my 65' Dart Control Arms. Although I cleaned them up; they really do need to be rebuilt. I don't have a press (or the know how) to rebuild them myself. Do you think most suspension shops should be able to rebuild them; even though they are 44 years old?

    65' Dart straight axle info

Hi guys. I didn't want to hijack anyones thread ; so I thought I'd start a new one. I have a 65' Dart and am considering going with a straight axle. The thing is that I don't want to go with an altered wheelbase. What I'm wondering is; does the straight axle have to be brought forward for...

    Early A Alterktion guys...

Yeah, I was lookin at that. Bill will knock off $300 bucks without brakes; but I figure I might as well go ahead with those. I don't think I'll need Wilwoods. It's quite a bit more for those. I'll be cruising my car mostly, and an occasional trip to the local tracks. (Mostly 1/8th mile tracks)

    Early A Alterktion guys...

Yeah; I think thats what I may do. If ya know anybody that needs a brand new early A body disc brake kit; they can save a couple hundred bucks. I paid $950 and I'll let it go for $750. (+ shipping) I haven't even taken any parts out of the box; only the manual.

    Early A Alterktion guys...

I'm glad though that there is at least an alternative. My scenario is like what was posted a few up from this one. I bought an MP disc brake conversion; and RMS upper control arms. Then I found out my K was thrashed. The lower control arm mounts were egg shaped; and there was a huge tear in the...

    Measuring for a diff (Part 2 w/pics)

These tires have a tread width of 10" and section width of 12.4". They are 265s. The new leafs are heavy duty 5 leaf. With the full tubs; I SHOULD have plenty of height in the well. (I hope) A member on another board told me he had problems with the tire swelling from centrifugal force and the...

    Measuring for a diff (Part 2 w/pics)

Ive got my wheels and tires; and have positioned them into the wheel wells; in order to measure for a shortened diff width. It was originally a 7.25 diff, lowriding slant 6 car; so I don't have an idea of the leaf spring height once my leafs are mounted. It's cut out for tubs; and as you can see...

Having a diff shortened. Whats the process?

Hey thanks Chuck. I'll definately give you a call once my springs are done. I'm also putting in aftermarket tubs; and new quarter panels; so once I see how much clearance I have; I'll be able to zero in on the measurements

Having a diff shortened. Whats the process?

I'm glad to hear that! :) I was kinda hoping I wouldn't have to play the part of mechanical engineer! Heh heh!

Having a diff shortened. Whats the process?

In the attached drawing; Do I have to know the measurements of "D" and "E" before contacting a shop to make the cut and ordering the new axles. Or do they normally just need the outside brake to brake width? (Item "F")

Having a diff shortened. Whats the process?

Oh; absolutely new good quality axles; new bearings; the works. I just have never had a diff done before; and want to gain as much room for tires; strength; and stability as I can without going to the expense of ordering a brand new Strange or Moser diff. But even if I did go with a brand new...

Having a diff shortened. Whats the process?

I have a 65 dart. OK; so how do I get measurements for what length my diff should be cut to? Here's what i have so far. I've cut my wheel houses to the frame rails for mini tub. I've cut the frame rails on the inside to relocate the leaf springs with relocation boxes. I've aquired new Weld...
