Is this cam too wild for power brakes?

I know this is about an e-body, but the only difference, to the driver, between power and non power disc brakes, in an a-body, is that the guy with power brakes can say "look, I have power brakes."

    Power brakes are for sissies.

    Brake fluid on firewall

I would get a new MC. The pushrod doesn't go into any fluid area. It's just leaking out the back of the MC piston.

    Swap to power disk ??

What do you not like about non power discs? The effort, even without power assist should be very low if everything is in good working order. My 68 and my wife's 73, both have non power discs.

What if I don't change my Master Cylinder on a disc conversion?

Your car will be less safe if you don't do the change.

    drilled and slotted rotors

The problem will drilled and slotted rotors is that most places won't turn them. The bargain basement brands have a tendency to develop hairline cracks around the drill holes. And they don't really offer any advantage on a street car.

Power brakes on an a body are completely unneeded.

My Power Disk Brakes are frustrating me...

Ditch the power assist. It's 100% pointless in an a-body. The only thing it was ever good for was driving up the MSRP.

    Larger calipers

Says the yellow pads are a track pad or for SUVs. When it comes to brake pads, track parts are, normally, not better for the street. Because.... The pads work better when they have some heat in them. Track pads may provide worse stopping power than a basic OEM replacement when cold or in...

Does power brakes equal disk brakes on a 68 Barracuda?

Power brakes was a stand alone option. My guess is that if you don't have a code for discs, your car came with power drums. Discs were optional even on the Formula S, and a fairly expensive one at that, $72.95. That's $490.35 in todays money. Just about the only more expensive (non...

Honestly, I would just ditch the booster and go manual.

You are really chasing your tail on this issue. Just install manual discs and be done with it.

    Will this work?

Honestly, instead of spending money on a drum system, I would just ditch the power booster and do a front disc conversion. Manual discs require very little effort on these cars.

    Will this work?

Are you running drums in front or disks?
  23. 1968FormulaS340

    Brakes need pumping

I would start with bleeding the entire system. Bleed them until all of the old fluid is out and see where you are.

Sounds like a problem with the wheels not the brakes. Your wheels must have more meat inside than most. What wheel?

The Feel Between Manual and Power Brakes

This post is spot on. Power assist in the braking system of an a-body gives you next to nothing but takes away from you: Under-hood space Brake feel Adds another potential failure point

Manual or power disk brakes. .?

My wife's 73 is non power disk (My 68 is also non power disc) and she finds the peddle effort to be more than acceptable (and trust me, she would complain if she didn't like it). I personally don't see the need for power assist in an a-body. Going without also frees space in the engine...

    Proportioning Valve Problems

A bunch of those rear brake lines are 40+ years old. People never check them. Changing it would be a good thing even if your brakes were working fine. And changing may just solve your problem. Could be a win win situation.
