Eagle heads came after the 6.1’s, basically it’s a 6.1 head with a tighter quench. I put a set of Eagle heads on a 6.1 for a forum member on FBBO, basically I built the engine cause it had misfire on #6, flat cam flat roller. This was after he bought it on eBay and I got it installed in a 67...
Yup, they got really good heads. Also, the later 5.7 Eagle heads flow AWESOME!
I’ll be honest, this isn’t going to be cheap, doing this swap is gonna cost, you can save some here/there, but I’d be willing to bet 5k at the minimum.
You can get used injectors (the rails 5.7 Hemi). I’d just go stroker right out the gate. It’ll save time/money in the long run, plus make more power.
This engine ya want, is it for a swap or going to replace another engine in a late model?
Yes, I took it off to get it on the stand and just a couple bolts to hold it on while I painted.
You can leave it on. I just re-read the original post.
Installing a 6.1 hemi, since the alternator is regulated by the pcm and it’s way more amperage that the stock set up (factory 318), does the ammeter get tied together so it bypasses the ammeter gauge?
Go with 3.91's and a 28 inch tall tire. Here's why.....the rfe545 has a 3.001 first gear, and outta the hole you move the car like a scalded cat on a hot tin roof, and with 4th and 5th being overdrive (5th is .67 is memory is correct) with a 28 inch tall tire and the 3.91's you'll be turning...
Any 3 speed shifter will work. With that said, I used a B&M cable from my shifter (64' Polara 500) to the 545rfe. Some minor adjusting and I was in business.
