With stock gauges, what is done with the ammeter?

Installing a 6.1 hemi, since the alternator is regulated by the pcm and it’s way more amperage that the stock set up (factory 318), does the ammeter get tied together so it bypasses the ammeter gauge?

IMHO short answer would be to bypass the amp meter but in the engine compartment not after going through the the fire wall.

others will have to chime in.

I did find this link which might give you some answers, I did not read the entire article but it seems on the track you are going. Vintage Chrysler electrical repairs and updates

Yes, get the amp meter out of the equation...you have to move a few wires around under dash, but it mainly gets rid of charge wire going threw firewall, to amp gauge, then back out firewall to bat...
Its kinda simple once you see how everything is routed... but its ben years since i did it, so im no good for step by step, but its ez ****

Agreed, so I’m confident that I should be able to get it done in an afternoon.
