You'll find the timing marks on your front cover are the opposite way too, so you might want to swap the front cover as well.

    Strange Carb Prob...

Depends how it was rebuilt? Maybe it's full of carb cleaner or some kinda solvent that wasn't thoroughly blown out? Does it run any better with that stuff out of it? Is it continuing to come out?

Is this a good 340 combination? How much HP?

    I guess that's why he's asking $1700 for it.

Is this a good 340 combination? How much HP?

This is exactly the stuf I needed to hear. I didn't know about the deck height or the water jacket filling...this engine is not for me, that's for sure. Thanks a lot! 65s

Is this a good 340 combination? How much HP?

Do you think this is a good 340 combination? This motor is for sale locally and I'm thinking I should buy it. Not sure yet how much mileage is on the motor, but I'm going to find out. What does he mean by water jack filled? 1971 Mopar 340 4-Barrel Motor Block: Mopar 340 block (water...

    1966 273 Question

Ya, unless you're sure it's the numbers matching motor, don't bother with it. As Fstfish said the original would have adjustable rockers so either the whole motor was changed or at least the drivetrain. Get underneath and check those numbers...they're way up on the sides of the block.

    273 Comando - What's it worth?

I guess whenever I see a Commando looking motor I think of my early Barracuda...but now I can plainly see that the engine bay is a second generation a-body engine bay..my mistake. I have a 318 in my car, dressed up to look like a Commando. None but the most discerning would notice the...

    273 Comando - What's it worth?

It doesn't look like a 4 barrel from the photo, but I guess it is if you say so. They don't look like the early a-body motor mounts too, which are harder to find. The throttle linkage is later style too, not early a-body. I'd say the intake alone is worth $100-125, the carb if it's the...

    mopar crate engine

I don't have any experience with crate motors, just an opinion....which is: don't forget to look at who the messenger is, don't just listen to the message. What I mean by that is, a lot of people on this site are drag racers and engine building gurus so their standards might be a little...

    340 vs 360

340 = internally balanced 360 = externally balanced What does this mean exactly? I want to hook a 360 up to my '65 cable shift auto 904 tranny. It has the small snout torque converter. Right now it's hooked to a later 318, so I have a machined spacer ring to take up the space between the...

A quick Heads Up regarding oil changes

Do you guys fill your oil filter with oil before you put it on? I have never done that but this year someone told me to ALWAYS do that, and that's the first person I've ever heard say that.

    Can a breather be cleaned?

I cleaned mine in parts washer with varsol I think. I just ran the liquid through it over and over and then let it dry outside for a few days. It's been great since. You can clean a reuse air cleaners too. Just soap and water I think and some pressurized air.

    1981 360 questions / differences

Okay, thanks guys. Maybe the guy knows it's been overbored too much? I don't know. If I get it and don't want the large bolt axles, a trade could be possible. Are they directly interchangeable like that?

    1981 360 questions / differences

I have the opportunity to purchase a documented rebuilt 1981 360 from a guy. It's never been run. He's asking $1500 along with an a-body 8 3/4" rear (I think it's got large bolt axles unfortunately). The guy's moving and needs to unload the stuff. I might even get it cheaper. He says it's...

Exhaust options- 340 in '65 Valiant

I'm planning the same thing, 340 in my '65 Barracuda. I plan to use the 553/549 340 exhaust manifolds. I don't like the look of headers, the problems of headers, the heat of headers or the cost (although the manifolds are getting pretty pricey!). I've been thinking about it for a long time...

    273 Overheating problem

I've been having some heating problems and noticed my front pulley (attached to water pump) is smaller than other cars. I think it's from an A/C car. I'd say it's about 1 inch smaller in diameter than the others I've seen. I'm guessing this makes the water pump rotate faster, thereby making...

    easy engine mounts

Okay, I didn't realize this until tonight but Tom apparently drilled a new hole in the left side (drivers side) mount where the rubber biscuit attaches. This new hole shifts the mount slightly forward (the hole is closer to the back of the mount, towards the firewall). I guess moving the mount...

    easy engine mounts

I'm no expert, but I do believe all 67-7? a-bodies share the same /6 k-frames and dimensions. So you should be okay. However, the poster way up above said he used the thick rubber biscuit on the right side but found it to be too thick and had to use it on the left. Did he just make a...

Oh ya, we ground a little tab/spru off the drivers side exhaust manifold right at the steering colum there. If we were using different manifolds, a thin biscuit on the drivers side might be okay.a Just to clarify, this is on a /6 K-frame.

Today we put the 360 into the '69 Deviant. See this thread for more info on the car -> http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?p=156095#post156095 We ended up with the right side(passenger side) truck mount on the right side of the motor and what I believe is a regular a-body 318...

    easy engine mounts

Well we didn't get around to putting the motor in, but I did measure the truck mounts. They are just a hair over 4" high. With the thick biscuit it's about 5". Does that sound right? I'm talking about using this on the right(passenger) side. Is that how high a Schumacher or Transdapt mount...

    65 barracuda

Ya, if your motor is a true '65 273 you need a '65 only intake. '66-67 stock 273 4-barrel intake has a different bolt angle. Make sure you truely have the original 65 motor first.

Here's a photo of some truck (71-78) mounts from ebay. They all the look the same eh? The Transdapt kit, the early a-body mount and the truck mount...they're all the frickin' same height it would appear! I'll have to measure a spare set of early A-body mounts I have so it can be compared...

That passenger side mount looks just like an early a-body mount, with a piece welded on for a 340. (that's how you make an early mount take a 340, you weld a piece on. Here's a photo, passenger side mount is the larger one at the top of the photo.

    easy engine mounts

I have a pair of early a-body (64-66) 273 mounts and I'm thinking the right side one (it's rather tall) will work well on the right side of a V8 on a slant 6 k-frame in my '69 Valiant. Anyone try this? It's probably just like the truck mount you're talking about, but I haven't seen the truck...
