Newb with a 225 needs assistance

Check your oil for gasoline, it happened to me because of a torn fuel pump diaphragm, if so your fuel pump may be bad. If the oil is too thin (because of gasoline) then the pressure won't build up and the light comes on.

Is it normal for a 225 to...

You may be right, I ordered a service manual and I will go through my engine with a fine tooth comb when the FSM gets here. No slop in u-joints not them. Nope, it is a clicking noise that increases with engine speed. 1. No, can't say, I checked that and it is straight. I live about...

make a noise like a playing car stuck in the spokes of a kid's bike? It does not make it at idle or when moving when the accelerator is not pressed (at idle, in gear) does it in forward and reverse. It kinda worries me because it wasn't there before, but I drove a '68 Charger that made the...

    Engine "Burbles"

All I got is one belt :banghead: just what I need, a water pump to go out on me.

    Engine "Burbles"

In order of your questions: yes, sometimes, near the alternator, no A/C

    Engine "Burbles"

...at idle (subtly) and it gets worse when in R, D, 2, 1. It sounds like the that "noise" a power steering belt makes except more quiet. And no, I don't have power steering. It usually happens when driving 30mph or below, upon light acceleration and below 20% throttle during heavy...

I'll have to keep the points for now. Maybe an electronic upgrade in the future. Say Chaz you wouldn't know anyone around here that does points adjustments do you?

    Tune-up

Yep the 24th this month. I'll check out the carb cleaner trick. The heat sensor is the one that is inside the air cleaner, has a hose from the carb and a hose from the vacuum canister on the snorkel. It lets the engine suck in hot air from the exhaust manifold to help warm it up. The PCV was...

    Tune-up

Thanks for the advice Chaz. I'll look into the spark plug washers. I've got the car just about where I want it. I'm going to follow up with the shop that did the initial tuning and I will check in with them. I know I need a new heat sensor I'll also look into the plug wires. I'll be there...

    Tune-up

Betty (as suggested by goldfish) in another thread runs a little rough during idling, I'm trying to track down the problem(s). Well The car was idling really nasty and I checked for vacuum leaks. I found the carb was not even bolted down (hand tight, barely) from the time it went to a shop...

/6 not wanting to start after capping off vaccum lines.

Go to your favorite auto parts store that carrys vacuum lines and get about 5-6 feet and replace the cracked ones you took off. I hope you didn't throw the old ones out. If you hold the old ones to the length of hose it will be a template for cutting, plus it will be a sample for the shopping...

I tried to get T-F parts through a local dealership. I filled out a form created by the dealership that ont he form included: Name, Email, Phone and Year, Make, Model, VIN, Part Number in question with a description. They said that they needed the Year, Make, Model, VIN, and part number. So...

Agreed, Grant, the proof is in the pudding as the old saying goes. Why does your story sound like a dealership horror story, lol.

I bet you can, talk my ear off. I know what you mean about being anxious for spring, but try having a '69 Charger with a 440 and it has been 4 years since I started the resto, that is some serious will to wait. I'd have to agree with you on the comment made earlier, just trying to clear up the...

What type of coolant does everyone use?

Only about $0.89 around here, in Cook County it is about the same but the tax is 9.25%.

I know about leave it to beaver, I've never met anyone who would reference it, lol. Beaver is something else also (exclusive to the opposite sex) haha. Good to meet you Matt, I'm the same age as you.

    Idiots...

What exactly do you mean by beaver? I know what that means but I'm not sure if it is the same context you are using it in. Well, inkjunkie, that thought has crossed my mind and I wouldn't put it past the previous owners because the "repairs" were made in November of 2011, right before the car...

Stroker and Badsport - I see your point and it makes perfect sense. To me though, it seems like it would be a logical thing, the car runs bad, lets check the entire fuel system to check for leaks... NOO! They ASSUME the carb is to blame, and yank it for a rebuild. Any GOOD shop would double...

wjajr, thanks for the input, the fuel pump has been replaced, and I've checked the oil, it does not smell "gassy". I will get the car up on my set of jack stands and check out the oil pressure relief valve. I do have plans to take the valve cover of and check the lash. Thanks for the specs...

No need for apologies, now, that you've explained a little more it's understandable. :D I get it. I really apprieciate your concern and I am grateful, because having people with a common interest is a wonderful benefit to not just me, but maybe someone else who has a problem. Thanks...

Thanks for the offer ChazRam, I'll look into the Nostalgia Days at Mickey D's. Well, lrazor, the fuel pump was spitting out half the gas it sucked from the tank out on the K-member, the carb was rebuilt to work with a low amount of gas (the floats set wrong and who knows what else the shop...

    Idiots...

Well there are some facts to note: The previous owners were charged over 300 dollars to get this carb rebuilt, for that kind of money you think the mechanic would do be a little smarter than to just rebuild the carb, the previous owners were not at all car people, per se. I may be an...

Stay away from Stevens Automotive in St. Charles IL (for you local guys) Here is the story I thought I'd share, it may be interesting to some... OK so I pick up the Dart from the previous owners at the bank (4-30-12) and it is running fine until I leave St. Charles, then about 12 miles up the...

    Double trouble

The dipstick rattles around inside the tube where it should seal, I'm thinking someone was less than gentle when they couldn't get the dipstick out. The guy that was supposed to change my fuel pump today decided that time would be better spend painting a Monte Carlo, I think I'll do my own...
