    New fan clutch is diffent

Did you ever try to install it? I'm thinking that it should fit since it is the same one offered at every auto store I've checked. She cross referenced the original Eaton number at NAPA on my old clutch with the new larger one. Yeah, the way I checked my original fan clutch is by shutting the...

    New fan clutch is diffent

We will check the clearance once the radiator and engine are in, but just wondering if anyone else had this issue.

    New fan clutch is diffent

I got a new fan clutch and it is larger in diameter and deeper. My original 318 clutch says Eaton 3462-106. Any ideas?

    Rust powder in A/C lines

I think some of the orange rust powder came out of both ends of the small line pictured. I don't really remember any coming out of the large upper metal line. Maybe it could just be trapped at the bottom of the evaporator? Or hopefully most was blocked in the TXV. Since I'll be getting a new...

Thanks for the suggestions. I will see if the system can be cleaned first.

    Rust powder in A/C lines

Right now we have the engine and trans out and the engine bay was just painted. I have most of the A/C lines out and I'm cleaning the outside of them up. I noticed that this orange powder keeps coming out. Then I shook the A/C drier and it sounded like it had sand in it. I thought it might...

    318 is not hot enough

The engine would be getting hotter if the thermostat wasn't opening. Going to lower temperature thermostat would make the engine run cooler since it would open sooner to circulate the coolant. Maybe the temp gauge is reading incorrectly? Is it the same one as before?

    Coolant Leak

O oka. Gonna take another look when it's dry now that the new hose is on. Thanks.

    Coolant Leak

Sometimes there is a small puddle of coolant on the flat area on top of the front cover. It's hard to tell where it's coming from. I changed the small bypass hose. It seemed like it stopped but then the engine overheated after driving a few minutes and then steam/coolant started coming out...

Heater hose blew on the freeway

I finally got all new heater hoses on. The previous hoses were all the wrong size! I finally talked to someone at another Napa store and they were able to look up the correct sizes. So, the smaller (left) hose on the heater core is 1/2" ID for sure. The right hose (closer to the drivers side)...

Heater hose blew on the freeway

I changed part of the smaller hose and it leaks a little. I think it is too big or I need to clean the connection better. I took both hoses off the core and saw that the pipes sticking our are two different sizes. The pipe on the right side is .625 OR 5/8" (Just the pipe, so not including that...

    Thermostat Question

I am going through the cooling system right now. My Plymouth service manual says that the standard thermostat is 185 F but Napa and Autozone says that OEM calls for 195 F. They don't sell 185 so I got a 180 thermostat. Any thoughts?

Heater hose blew on the freeway

Cool yeah good advices. Any info on whether the two long heater hoses are supposed to be the same diameter or not? Both of mine were different.

Heater hose blew on the freeway

I got one of those a while ago but installed the hose connection part on the heater hose of my last car. Is that what most of you guys use or is there any other ways to flush it without installing that heater hose splice connection?

Heater hose blew on the freeway

I was driving on the freeway to a show early this morning and a heater hose blew! Luckily my dad was driving his car to the show also so he pulled over too. It shot all of the coolant out and drenched everything in the engine compartment as I was pulling over. There was tons of steam and smoke...

Question on adding coolant to radiator

It is all stock, so yes it has the shroud and clutch fan. Looks like a newer water pump. Haven't flushed it. Ok so all together I added about a jug and a half of coolant and it runs a lot cooler now. The temp gauge barely gets above the coolest side. About 1/5 of the way up. It was just really...

Question on adding coolant to radiator

I don't have a recovery bottle, just a tube that dumps it. Last time I was letting the car warm up for like 5 minutes or so and it got to temp. After that, the gauge read almost all the way to the hottest and coolant/steam was coming out of the tube. Then it cooled once I started driving it.

Question on adding coolant to radiator

Yup I added the premixed 50/50 jug. Is it better to run the engine for a bit to normal temp then check the radiator after it cools for a bit? Just didn't want to pull the cap when its hot and have all the coolant shoot out. But would that be the best way to tell how much coolant is in there or...

Question on adding coolant to radiator

The car is cold and hasn't been on for a week. I pulled the cap off and I saw that the coolant wasn't over the metal cooling passages. I added almost a full jug of coolant and it still didn't even submerge those passages inside. I checked the cap a few months ago and there was some coolant...

    Coolant Overflow

Thanks, will look into the clutch fan and making that tube longer. Well when it is doing that, the temp gauge goes nearly all the way to the hottest. Yea I was just idling in the driveway for like 5 minutes trying to warm it up. I think something is up with the carb too. Even when the engine...

    Coolant Overflow

Occasionally I hear this whistling noise. Finally figured out that it was the coolant spraying steam/water out of the hose. Only happens if the car is idling for a while not getting an airflow from driving. I noticed the tube ends just before the hole near the bottom of the car. It seems like...

    A/C Compressor

The A/C in the car has never worked since I've had it. The blower works fine, but the A/C compressor doesn't engage. Will it do this if it is low on refrigerant or is there something else to look into?
