Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

The reasoning behind the C body is: I already own it - $$$ The longer term idea for this car is a 'super stock' feel with a set of 15x3.5 and 15x14 Cragar Super Tricks, Tunnel ram'd big block. If I can get to the 2nd stage of the build then any axle I have will need to be cut down and new...

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

Great info. Is there substantial difference between the 10.98 and 11.75 rotors? All I have seen are 5th Ave in my area. While I understand there is no signficant reason to move away from drums, fact is I don't have drums. I have a naked 8.75 that is going to be cut down. I will have to buy...

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

I haven't been able to find this setup without effectively buying a whole parts car. The C body axle I have is bare. It will need brakes, regardless. While it might not be necessary on a street car, I like the visual balance of discs on all 4 corners. If I am going to go downt the "fix it"...

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

My Dart Lite has a build date of 11/75, and is non-power assist. It falls directly into this window. The ultimate goal is to get disc and big bolt pattern on the front, and then use a Scarebird kit on a cut down C-Body 8.75 for disc brakes on all 4 corners.

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

How do I know I have the large ball joint. If this is what I have, then all I need from the salvage yard, is the spindles, caliper brackets? What rotors do I use? I appreciate the help.

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

Would I be better off to grab one of these 395.00 kits, and then buy some tubular upper control arms?

Oddball car - swap to disc - ideas?

1976 Dodge Dart Lite. Car was supposed to be big bolt pattern disc, with 4 speed OD. Mine is very early 1975, and is small bolt pattern, and drums on all 4 corners. I have searches ScareBird, they only service up to 1972. Ebay listings show complete kits for 395.00 but all say that 75-76 use...

    hub stuck in drum

I heard the wheel studs were "swedged?" and that you have to drive the studs out first, and even then it may not come off. My best luck has been to pull the cotter pin, bearings, and take the entire assembly off as a unit, buy new studs, and pound it through on the floor. A hydraulic press...

has anyone tried to use a line-lok as a parking brake?

The line lock manufacturers advise against it heavily. The solenoid is not designed for long term. They swear it will fail if used as ebrake.

What to try next??? dragging brake shoes

Did you grease the contact points where the shoes meet the backing plate? I doubt it is the only problem, but it could be making the problem worse. All springs in proper location? Lots of these shoes have extra holes, and it is possible to get a spring installed, but in the wrong hole on...

Perhaps in the above picture you could paint the components different colors to make it easier to determine what is what?

Emergency brake cable, 8 3/4, does anyone reproduce?

The existing rear end is 7.25! Awesome. Then I will pull them off, clean and grease, and re-use. THANKS!

Let's talk rear drums, 8.75 going into A body

I would be interested in a set. I have no idea what the rear end is year wise, all I know is it is an A body 8.75 housing and axles. What does your kit include? Brakes, drums, and hardware? Do you have e brake cables?

Let's talk rear drums, 8.75 going into A body

I have 8.75 A body going into 1976 Dart. I will be keeping the small bolt pattern. I have backing plates, axles and housing with center, that's all. What do I need to be looking for in terms of brakes and drums. I will be buying new drums, so do I need to specify an early 70's A body with...

Emergency brake cable, 8 3/4, does anyone reproduce?

I picked up an A body 8.75 when I bought my Dart Lite. I want to put this rear end in. I need to find a few things first.... I need new emergency brake cables. Are they reproduced by anyone aftermarket? Anyone got a decent used set?

    "New" Drums = Disks?

Sounds like any kind of driving would be grampa compared to your antics. Not that I didn't have my antics in my younger days. I once got shot at, broke out my back window when I was "racing on the street" We got off, he went to jail, and had to replace the window. Hot damn that window got...

    "New" Drums = Disks?

I agree, but I have yet to have fade on mine. It may be driving style, but even in stop and go traffic, they stay firm. I rank myself as a defensive drive, and also an eco driver, so I minimize brake use, minimze RPM but keep it moving, use the space between me and car in front, etc. If I...

    "New" Drums = Disks?

I tend favor drums. On both of my cars, the drum stop excellent. The Dart Lite has new wheel cylinders on all 4 corners, plus front hoses, and new master cylinder. The pedal feel is excellent, and stops hard. I am sure if I really worked them fade would come into play, but a reasonable...

    Brake pad recommendations?

Hawk and EBC are excellent brands. I sell a ton of both. Hawk is my preference over EBC. Hawk has several different compounds to choose from, from HP street, up to Ceramic.

    Brake pad recommendations?

Would there be clearance directly under the ball joint? I personally ditch the shields, as they retain all the brake dust and force it forward on the wheels, plus the reduced air flow.

    Brake pad recommendations?

Might I make a suggestion. Increase airflow over the rotors. 2 possibilities, either ditch the "dust" shields, or if you want to keep them I have seen someone get 2 small 45% 2" elbows from the muffler shop, and they drilled corresponding holes in the dust shield, and welded the elbows onto...

    How Many Times!

My bet is master cylinder. When I bought my Dart Lite (4 wheel manual drums) we replaced all 4 wheel cylinders, front brake hoses, and it still went to the floor, despite what was good flow at wheel cylinders. A parts store replacement master cylinder solved the problem. It stops as well...

bigger master cylinder with more fluid movement?

Boy I wish. This thing has NO options whatsover. I guess being the Dart Lite, for economy, they put the least weight, least drag they could muster.

bigger master cylinder with more fluid movement?

Update All 4 wheel cylinders have been replaced. We replaced the master cylinder last night, bled the brakes, and adjusted them tight. Pedal is at the TOP and brakes feel AWESOME! It is not quite as good as discs, but it is DAMN CLOSE. Pedal feels firmer then on my 94 Ram 1/2 2wd...

bigger master cylinder with more fluid movement?

All shoes are in good shape, and are adjusted to where they are starting to touch the drums, and creating slight drag. I am wondering about master cylinder, and that it might be excaping by a seal partially on the inside. I will get them all adjusted tight, and a new master cylinder, and...

bigger master cylinder with more fluid movement?

Master cylinder was never dry but we are bleeding at the bleeders on the wheel cylinders. The old school method where one guy is in the car pressuring the brakes, the other poor schmuck is under the car, getting sprayed with brake fluid when he releases the bleeder valve....

1976 Dart Lite. /6 Manual drum brakes 9" drums on rear of 7.25 rear axle. 10" drums on front. When I bought the car I knew I would be giving the brakes a once-over before driving. The linings and hardware on front were NEW. The front hoses were terrible, no outer rubber left. The bleeder on...

    Drums to Disc 74 dart

From what I am hearing, they used drums, and small bolt pattern, on /6 cars through 1976. My Dart Lite, is /6 with small bolt pattern and 4 wheel manual drums.
